Surprised not to see it mentioned here - $35 audio wifi streamer supporting Spotify, Deezer, Pandora among many, supposedly able to stream 24Bit FLAC, complete with a digital output for those that want one. Multiroom support by Christmas.

Discuss.

No Apple. No Tidal. No multiroom. £30.

It does seem to have possibilities, but is it just for streaming from an Android phone?

Multiroom is imminent and it doesn't stream from your phone, it streams direct from wireless source - phone is just for control. Apparently Tidal due before Jan16.

You beat me to it

This article is something of a review and suggest Sonos (and therefore B&O) may have a problem ...

http://www.engadget.com/2015/09/29/chromecast-audio-hands-on/

I wonder how long it will be before Apple Beats starts making (sound) waves ...

Hmmm - just announced.

You have to get up early to beat you guys ;-(

Been waiting for this for a long time - they have talked about it for quite a while now.

I got the Gramofon for my son (who is Android user) a year ago, because they took sooo long.

Doesn't matter - he is just using it for Spotify Connect anyway.

For Android users this definitely could be a big leap ahead - but maybe they are satisfied with bluetooth streaming.

If it will be an alternative for AirPlay, I don't know.

Biggest plus point is, that the content is fetched to the device and that the app is just the remote controller.

I use AirPlay a lot for videos within homepages (and definitely won't switch to Chrome) - so AirPlay will still be a main part of my setup.

Maybe using both (technologies) will be the result.

Let's wait and see, what comes with the new ATV!

Maybe B&O should concider implementing the Cast hard-/software in future BeoPlay products - in order to get more Android users 'on the hook'.

I think that this illustrates just what B&O are up against ..... the technology is now moving so fast and costs are dropping dramatically.

For $35, I am going to connect a Chromecast audio device to the AUX in on my Beocenter 2 and use the app on my iPhone or iPad.  It is like getting an update to my system.  I won't have to bother with any of the link options from B&O.

I will order the new style Apple TV for my living room tv for movies and music.

I still like Bang and Olufsen products especially TVs and the speakers. I am looking forward to the Beolab 90 but I won't buy it because it is probably too large for my home and I have to buy a new car.  My wife seems to think cars are more important.

Agree. My initial reaction was based on an inaccurate review at engadget and the comments on that review (as they stood this morning.)

I think there is some advantages in this Cromecast Audio,

The price.
The fact that it won't stream from you phone, this is a major plus for the battery.
It should be better quality , but lets see
It should support multiroom later by a sw update.

Best regards

I have just purchased a Chromecast Audio puck to replace a defunct mobile phone that I was using to feed web Radio into a BC2 Masterlink system.

But..... Google have announced they have  stopped making them (and the price has risen from EoL £16 at Argos back to £27- £30). Google's own online store has sold out.

The next question will be just how long will Google support the software that enables you to cast from your phone or tablet? These Chromecast pucks were ideal for updating old systems, but, presumably, Google have seen a tailing off in sales.

No complaints, I've certainly had my 25 pounds worth from mine and continue to enjoy it most every day, even better with a google assistant device, "hey Google play Eno on hifi" ... no faffing about with phones or apps etc. Just music when and where you want it.

I just added one to my father’ Beosound 4 - it works a treat. I’m surprised they are being discontinued, I would have thought the market for them was pretty big for upgrading older kit.

I need to try and get one quickly for my beosound 8.

I am using mine in my BS5 connected with the Behringer USB adapter and operated via a.aux.

It is a great feature to just say to google “play the greatest showman album on bm5”.

I am pretty happy with the device.

Its a nice album and movie by the way ;-)

You can get Radio Paradise to stream direct to Chromecast..... but the casting option only appears if you sign up to RP as a beta tester!

This raises the question.... if Chromecast Audio is no longer on sale, how long will Google offer software support for the device, and more importantly, how long will streaming services add a 'Casting' option?

They are discontinuing the product, not the service. They said that speakers nowadays has the casting built-in, so no need for the product.

So the service continues, but in future, unless you already have Chromecast Audio, you will need Google speakers? Sounds like good and bad news.

They are in a difficult position. The CCA is great for recycling/up cycling speakers. But I the other hand it keeps people from buying new stuff.

For me it was the best tech I have seen: ridiculous price, massive implementation possibilities, and great sound.

No, there is no need for Google speakers. Just for Chromecast-built-in speakers like B&O, or receivers from another brand.

Like my Beosound 2, because of Chromecast-built-in also working as a new ROON endpoint since last year, which is nice.

Sad that the Chromecast Audio is gone... not everybody wants to buy new Mono-Speakers just for streaming capabilities. ;)

The Chromecast Audio dongle is simply great to add streaming to different hifi systems / active speakers etc. with ease!

But ok, Google and Sustainability are two completely different worlds.

So I hooked up one of these $15USD CCA units to an open input on my BeoSystem 3 and programmed it to the Sat selection. I pointed my Google home mini to it and called it “Bang and Olufsen”.

Now I can press the Sat button on my Beo4 or Beolink 1000 remotes from my main room or any MCL2 link rooms to start the input and ask Google Assistant to “play Dire Straits on Bang and Olufsen” and the assistant responds “playing Dire Straits from Spotify on Bang and Olufsen”. Whole house music by voice command! I guess I’m just easily amused by this new technology, but I find this amazing.Stick out tongue

Then I configured the Good Morning routine to tell me the weather forecast, tell me about my commute, connect to “Bang and Olufsen” and play my favorite radio station’s webcast. Good morning, Google. Too much fun.Big Smile

Maybe a little off topic but, next, I plan to add Google Assistant voice control to my Home Theater with another Home Mini and this time, a Google Chromecast unit for audio and video. Add some Hue lighting and a Logitech Harmony Hub, and I’m hoping to create many routines:

“Hey Google, let’s get started” - turn on the BeoSystem 3, the projector, and play some smooth music from Spotify while we settle in.

“Hey Google, let’s watch tv” - switch to the TV input, dim the Hue light.

“Hey Google, let’s watch a movie” - switch to DVD input, dim the Hue light, hit play.

“Hey Google, turn on the fan”

“Hey Google, turn on the AC”

“Hey Google, turn the volume up 10%”

“Hey Google, show’s over” - undim the light, turn everything off or to standby.

And on, and on...

In my mind, there is still a lot of life and flexibility in my older B&O equipment to keep me busy for a long time when you find a way to integrate these new technologies.

For both audio and video ,try Google Chromecast Ultra. Since I've got it,plugged into Bsys3,ethernet wired,no any dropouts.Never needed to be reset. From CC ultra, hdmi splitter, one into Bsys3 for audio, other one into 4kTv.I just press V.MEM on beo4,Bsys3 will activate CC ultra, and (LinTronic) will start Tv.Volume controlled by Beo4. Thus,I am not using any bulit-in smart tv applications, everything thru CC ultra, including (mostly used) Deezer.

As close as you can get now! I saw where NASA was experimenting with a food "replicator" that was a 3D printer that would assemble food from different ingredients, fats, proteins, starch, flavoring. Looked absolutely dreadful. I have also seen chocolate 3D printed into amazing shapes but don't know how it tastes, it may have to have various things added to hold its shape well.

Sounds like a fun toy for you though, the Alexa.
