Greetings... long time B&O user but haven't been on the site for a while now.  Just recently acquired a BeoSystem3 Type 9621 so i am guessing MkII if i understand the Types correctly.  Connected over my speakers Center channel, fronts and rear ok, as well as the DirectV and PS3 boxes.  Seeing that my BV4 is an older generation panel I am using a non B&O LCD as my test panel.  The system recognizes that its a non B&O panel and all speakers are functioning, DirectV and PS3 and also coming through but the picture on the screen is constantly flickering or vibrating.

Anyone come across this before?  Is or could it be something with the settings that I am missing?

I am currently using a DVI-D to HDMI male adapter in order to connect to the Sony LCD.  Was getting ready to head out and get a DVI to HDMI cable thus omitting the adapter as the culprit.

Any insight or suggestion would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Hiller

Hi Hiller,

I presume the directv box and PS3 are connected by HDMI?

Have you checked the screen is okay by connected one of these direct to the Sony?

You could try connecting to the DISPLAY 2 and pressing LIST->FORMAT->0 to switch to this output - if this has the same issue it probably doesn't rule anything out but if it is okay then it proves your cable / DVI adapter is ok.

Kind Regards,

Martin.

Martin,

Appreciate the advice, you are correct sources are connected via HDMI.  When I connect the sources directly to the Sony all is okay its just when it is going through the BS3 that you get the flickering/vibration of the picture.

I tried your recommendation about connecting to DISPLAY 2 and upon switch to this output by pressing LIST->FORMAT->0 the sound comes on but I get no picture at all on the Sony.

I am guess this means I am out of luck and the issue is with the BS3 unit itself then.

Ok, that's good. I just wanted to check the display before we went further.

No, display 2 is usually intended for a projector if there is already another display connected to display 1. I can't remember off the top of my head what the minimum steps required to configure this are so it was just something to try. It certainly doesn't mean at this stage that the BS3 is faulty.

Please connect the display back to DISPLAY 1 and with a picture on screen from either the directv box or the PS3 (via the BS3), press menu on the beo4 remote and let us know whether the menu displayed on the left hand of the screen also flickers or whether this is steady.

Also, when you say the picture flickers, do you mean it keeps disappearing and reappearing, or is it just 'shimmering' for want of a better word?

Martin.

That's some good news to hear.

With either source active the Menu overlay is also effected.

Was not sure how to describe the issue, it is like the imagine is being displayed then milliseconds later its being displayed again just above the original imagine and just bouncing back and forth constantly, thus looks like the imagine being displayed is bouncing up and down constantly hopefully that makes more sense.

Okay, that makes sense. It sounds like an interlacing issue - either an interlaced picture being displayed in a non-interlaced mode or visa-versa.

Do you know the resolution capabilities of the Sony TV? ie. whether will it display 1080p (full HD) or just 720p and/or 1080i (HD Ready)?

There are some settings we can check / adjust in the customer service menu.

To enter the customer service menu, press MENU, then highlight OPTIONS, the press the RED button, then GO.

next select SCREEN INFORMATION and let me know what it says there.

press OK or BACK

then select SIGNAL INFORMATION and again let me know what is there.

press OK or BACK

finally, select PICTURE ADJUSTMENTS and do the same please - don't change anything here yet, but let me know how it's configured at the moment and we can take it from there.

Kind Regards,

Martin.

So it sounds like your BeoSystem 3 has DVI output, if this is the case jump into the customer service menu and change the output on display 1 from the default "Nearrest Line" used for the BeoVision 4's to "Double Buffer" this should solve your problem and make the output compatible with most 3rd party displays

In case you have the 3D version BeoSystem 3 with HDMI output then you also need to turn "Sound out on HDMI" to Off store it and then do a power reset of the system 3

This should fix your problem

Jus to say thanks as this answered helped me a lot. I am finishing my home cinema setup (BL5 as fronts, BL3 Rears, BL 7,1 as center). Testing currently with a 26 inch computer screen and had this flicker as well (previuous owner must have used with a B&O monitor). Drove me crazy !!!

Thanks to this I hope when they put up my new 82inch 8K Samsung screen tomorrow everything should go smooth. Really excited. Will try to upload pics when done.

A dealer will need to drop by to upload the pucs of Kaleidescape and Setup box (Proximus TV here in Belgium) Apple TV was already in there.

I know I will need a splitter to send the 4k image from ATV to screen and 5,1 sound from ATV to BS3

Thanks again without this forum I would not have managed !
