I have never used the tape player much and maybe this has caused the problem. Sometimes the rewind function didn't work and eventually all stopped working. When I press play the head goes up but nothing moves. To make the head go down I have to put the system in stand by mode.

Do you think this could be a broken belt or something else. Can I buy a new belt and replace it myself?

Thank you in advance for your advice

Sounds like belt trouble, either broken or loose.

I guess that Dillen can supply these. Suggest you contact him by PM or email.

Yes definately the capstan belt, but no longer available from B&O.Martin(Dillen)will probably have one,but it's quite fidly to do.You need to completely dismantle the tape mech from the unit, then dismantle the mech too!!!Not for the faint hearted, but do-able with patience.I'd happily do it for £500,which is outrageous!!!

Thanks for your replies. So basicly there's not much I can do. Certailny don't want to spend £500 fpr a new tape unit! Unsure

What Nick said.
There IS a belt in there and the belts wear and stretch with age.
Have a repairshop replace the belt. It's normally a one-hour job and the belt is cheap so
shouldn't go nowhere near the amout, you mention.

Sorry, me again. Do you open the Ouverture from the front or back in order to access the tape?

Thanks

Get the service manual even if (and don't get me wrong here - I mean the very best) you asking
a question like this suggests you should leave the belt replacement to someone with a little more
experience. Servicing B&O is like nothing else and getting inside the Ouverture is by far the easiest
part of the job.
