The integration of sound and video quality has been attracting me to buy avant 55. However, since h265 hevc is not included, are there any means available now which allow me to watch 4k content?

Indeed and my FAVOURITE quality service VIMEO. They now stream in 4K AND ALOW you to download uncompressed 'original' 4K video. Also some films are available to buy from them in 4K. Also, YouTube of course.

I still can't believe how stupid Apple are not to have 4k on their super expensive new Apple Tv that isn't even in the shops until next month. Many cities now have fibre optic broadband so they really can't argue about speed in 2015. My city has a minimum of 50 with the option of going to 1gig speed.

I believe the new Amazon box has 4K compatibility along with Roku.

...with all that 'interesting' content - honestly, I can wait a while!

My first source would be the UHD/BluRay discs - so no need for an ATV with support for more pixels.

Anyone using the Nvidia Shield Android TV with the Avant 55/75/85? Is there a great difference when compared to native 1080p content?

Hey MM, I'm not convinced that new Blu-Ray 4k whatever will be around for long. Surely the physical disc market is so tiny?

@Michael haha so true! I think that they are being totally greedy with this one.

The new Roku 4 is well speced at £99 with 60fps 4K

As soon as streaming can provide the same PQ and SQ as the Bluray disc, I am ready for ditching the physical media.

I am sure there are enough people like me for keeping that disc alive for a while.

Maybe that is the problem - in general people are satisfied with 'less'.

That list reminds me of the kind of 1080 demo content I used to collect in ~2003 !

More 4K content on the RED camera site.

Anyone actually watching 4k/UHD material on their Avant's? Please forward your experiences. Tempted by the Nvidia Force as it just became available here, the Roku 4 isn't and the new Amazon-thing is only Full-HD (but will give us Top Gear?) . The new Apple TV seem pointless for B&O users as we can't take advantage of the new interface without adding a non-B&O remote to our clutter free tables.

And there are (a lot of) people, who haven't even reached that - still watching DVD's.

Hey MM, I don't think people are satisfied with less, they are simply impressed with the results of streaming HD and 4k. Remember a few years back, people had 21" CRT TVs and VHS video recorders and grainy analogue satellite equipment. Being honest, I don't know anyone who uses DVDs now and I'm glad as they were such fragile things with very very short life. Finger prints, scratches and the whole disc is useless. I really wouldn't want to ever use that again, in comparison, i've got VHS tapes from 1984 that are still as good as the day that they were recorded by my parents.

But certainly, each to their own but the market will of course decide.

At least on that we can agree. That will happen - but does not say anything of what is best, when it comes to PQ and SQ.

By the way: none of my Bluray discs have scatches or fingerprints!

I'm waiting for Mac Mini to be updated to 4k 60 hz. The latest has only 30 Hz. When it's 60 I will get one and connect it to my Avant 55.

Yeah, the market rarely reflects technical merit, it's usually far more about marketing - the VHS vs Betamax format war was a good example of this, with the latter being the better standard technically, but not winning in the market (although contrary to popular perception, Betamax didn't just disappear - it, or more specifically it's derivative 'betacam', was widely adopted within the professional recording industry.

On a related note - for anyone who remembers the scotch video tape TV adverts with the skeleton and the 're-record, not fade away' slogan (did these air outside the UK?) - I actually returned a couple of betamax tapes to them around 5 years ago - partly just to see what would happen and whether they would honour the lifetime warranty, and sure enough they sent me replacements. I was very impressed - that's a level of customer service that other companies could learn from...

Martin.

It seems that the function of DLNA does not support UHD. Does it mean that i cant stream any 4k videos from NAS like Synology DS216 play (which has the 4k transcoding function) in 4k format and fully utilize the 4k screen of avant 55?

Instead of providing 4k transcoding, qnap Tas 268 can decode 4k video from the servers and directly connect to the tv through hdmi. So may it be the most possible way to play my collection of 4k videos from the server?
