Hi guys,

I just bought a BeoPlay A9. I connected it to my network with a 300 Mbps connection and relatively good router. I use my ipad to stream music from. I think my Airplay is very unstable. Sometimes it can not find the A9 and often when I change song Airplay drops out. Whereupon I'll have to press Airplay again. Do you guys have the same problem and a possible solution to it?

AirPlay does seem to have its limitations. I have similar issues in that sometimes AirPlay just doesn't pick up my many B&O devices such as Essence, A8, A9, two playmakers and only picks up one or both of my ATV's. If I 'renew lease' under my wifi settings that makes it spring into action.

Check the quality of signal to your A9 via you Beosetup.app. I think others have suggested making a static link to it?

Dave.

Try a 5Ghz Wifi network. I also had a very unstable situation and after this change it is by far better.

I always switch off my WiFi when I go to bed (as I don't like signals messing my body). By doing this and switching it on the next day, I find Airplay is pretty reliable whereas when I used to leave the router on all of the time, it was not stable on the A8.  Never problems on the ATV just the B&O A8.

I thought I was the only one that did this! Embarrassed

As I've said previously, with the wifi coming through our household electricity cables to a sender, I sometimes have to unplug the sender and plug it in again for AirPlay to work and have all devices found by AirPlay. Same principal as turning wifi off and on again I suppose.

Thanks guys.

It looks like the 5Ghz did the work. My devices can always find the A9 - so thats great. Thx :)

But but but

(Almost) every time i change a song through youtube or another music app, I have to press the Airplay button and find the A9.

Have you guys a solution to this issues? Maybe make A9 a default airplay player?

For me, the solution was to give the A9 it's own dedicated IP address, which you can set through the B&O Setup app. That pretty much fixed any dropouts I experienced.

Also, might be worth using powerline devices and ethernet. If your A9 isn't near your router, your computer has to send the streaming data to your router for your router to then send it back to the A9, all via wifi. If you use powerline and ethernet, it can be far more reliable.

Thanks for reply.

How do I find a IP address? Just the same as my PC?

Thanks Moxxey! I think this is the solution for many of us!

I have the A9 1st edition.
In the last few months I have tried many different things to fix the airplay problem. The connection was very unstable, while my download speed was +150mbit.

So what I did to fix the problem:

  • Replaced my router by an Apple Express Time Capsule 2TB (expensive, but worth it)
  • Tried different places for the A9 in the house
  • Re-installed the Beoplay's network settings
  • Fixed the Beoplay's IP address as you mentioned in the configuration center

It seems to work great now. Haven't had any disruptions.

I use a Macbook Pro 2012 and iPhone6.

Hi guys, I have endless trouble streaming via airplay to A9. It plays fine for 10 - 20 mins then starts breaking up dropping packets for a few seconds....It gets progressively worse. The same thing happens to beolit 12. I have replaced my router several times thinking the problem is my wifi network. I have latest BEOsetup app on iPhone 7 with latest version software...Could it be a wifi protocol issue like 802.11 b/g/n or is it just that Apple +wifi streaming + B&O is not a happy marriage?

I have had this problem on previous versions of iphone/ ipad/ imac through different routers and different B&O products...

My problem in life is that I love B&O and Apple and refuse to believe that this is a compatibility issue or a faulty component....It has to be a setting on one of the devices...HELP please!!!

See above? And please don't suggest your own post as the answer :)

This may be too obvious a response (and a somewhat expensive solution) but...I have a three-piece “Google Wifi” set. I installed one of them next to my (1st generation) A9 and connected the the two via an ethernet cable. All drop-out issues are gone. You can power the Google wifi from the A9’s USB port too.

I’ve been trying all kind of things to get b&o to play game with airplay / airplay-2 / googlecast.

My finding is that the latest generation of devices support airplay-2 and chromecast well. Finally by 2019, b&o made it work.

For the older ones:

Beolit 12 - it’s not even wifi N, but G. That’s basically a show-stopper. And quite embarrassing for a premium brand even at the time of launch. Basicallt forget about airplay wifi with the beolit. Even if you solve it for some time, the drop-outs will always reappear.

A9 gen 1&2 - the wifi (N) per as se is fine. However, the ap/gc implementations are poorly designed and not stable. You can always fix it by restarting or resetting. it will then work well for some time, but eventually you’ll need a restart. Wired works well, so that’s ok if you can do.

My solution now is a airport express 2, which i can connect to the beolit, a9 and other old devices. You can then get airplay 2. You could do the same with a CCA (which i also tried), but don’t like how it handles groups.

Ultimately, the NL multi-room works very well, so another solution is to just drop your beolit 12 or other non-nl devices.

My generation 2 works perfectly, though it’s hard wired.

Agreed , powerline adapters are cheap and easy as a solution.

I also have to power cycle the power line adapter occasionally, and everything works again. The only real downside to a cheap solution

I have found one solution to Airplay troubles. It works perfectly if a bit expensive.

Last year I bought a three-piece “Google Wifi” mesh system. One of these connects to the internet modem. The other two ”mesh” with the first — and each other — to provide an above average wifi experience.

Each unit also has an ethernet jack and is powered by USB (C).

Now I have one of these Google units attached to the back of my Gen 1 A9, connected to it by USB for power and by an ethernet cable. Apparently the A9 becomes “wired” when it is connected by an ethernet cable, not mentioned anywhere in its meager “Quick Setup” guide, but it is so.

Well, it works perfectly now, no drop outs, either off my iPad or an Apple TV.

I suspect Airplay 2 in later generation A9s may be better but this is an excellent solution, especially if you need a better wifi router anyways.

Apparently any WiFi only Beoplay can be Ethernet connected via the appropriate cable. When I had WiFi trouble with my M3, the B&O support asked me to wire it ....

Although it's an unsatisfactory answer from B&O support, it actually is possible to wire the M3 if needed by using one of these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00RM3KXAU/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Yes, I had good results with this one. Bad results with another one (I cannot remember the name).

I do not have an M3. Does that also run on Airplay?

What about Beolab 17? Is there any alternative ways to run them wirelessly except for Beolink?

Feature-wise, the M3 is an excellent device. It has airplay-2, CCA and most importantly NL. It has a modern wifi receiver compares to the A9, so runs quite stable.

Not sure though whether the M3 counts as the most iconic design ;) I have the black one and think it would have benefited from at least a cotton cover to give it a bit of a b&o touch...

But besides the design, i’m actually very satisfied with the M3. Most stable and good features (compared to A9 and even BS1). and sound is solid as well.
