Hi All, I have just fetched out my B&O Beogram 3000 from the loft as i have gotten into vinyl again. Its been sat for roughly 20 years and the motor seems to be really really slow and the bearings the deck sit on seem to squeak as it turns around. Does anyone know How and where I should oil to bring it back to life?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Ben
Not a particularly easy task and we've had it up a couple of times before. You will have to pull out the dried remains of the old oil from the pores in the bronze bearing material, clean it and press in fresh oil.Google sintered bronze bearings and you will learn a lot.You can also do a search for sintered bronze bearings, oil, heat, vacuum etc. here on Beoworld and I'm sure something will turn up.
Just adding new oil will only make it work for a few hours and only add to the mess already in there.

Thing is, if you heat the special oil (about 100 C) and leave the bearing in it for one hour it will absorb the oil somehow, as well as melt out the old one. Not the real industrial process of course, but it works.
