Dear all,
I'm a clown. I bought a beautiful Bang & Olufsen Beogram RX2 Turntable on ebay, beautiful condition, all original packaging etc.
I have a gorgeous old stereo separates system from the UK for which I use a power supply converter to go from 110V to 220v. I mistakenly plugged by US Beogram into the 220V outlet. Smoke. Burning smell. Then a bang. There goes my Beogram - and I didn't even get to play a record. My pride is as damaged as my turntable.
Could anyone offer any advice on how I might go about fixing this? Would this be a fuse issue? A power supply issue? As an amateur, can I replace components or would I be better of cutting my losses at this point?
I saw a component like this on ebay, but I'm not sure I'd know what to do with it:

Thank you for any advice!
Jonathan
I have 3 of these, plus a parted-out unit in a box some where. Can it be fixed? Almost definitely. Is it worth fixing? Probably not. RX 2's are still a dime a dozen. What's really valuable, if working and new or already refurbished, is the cartridge.
I know you don't have a working turntable to definitively tell us, but do you have any information on the cartridge? At least, what's the model number? It will be written on the unit itself.
Just this week someone local to me was selling on Craig's List an RX 2 without cartridge for $50. I'd just start looking for a replacement if you know the cartridge works.
Hi there, thanks so much for the reply Rich. The information i have on the cartridge from the seller is: MMC2 cartridge re-tipped about 3 years ago by Soundsmith in Peekskill NY.
So you think I should just start looking for an RX2 missing a cartridge, and that's my best bet?
Oh, wow, you have a cartridge there worthy of more than an RX2! The sky's the limit with whatever B&O turntable you want to put that cartridge on.
