Hello!
I found these old b&o speakers, type m, in my fathers old attic, and i want to fix them up. The thing is the speaker elements on them are not like they used to be :D. I need new ones anyone that can help me pick out witch ones to replace them with?
Thankful for any help !
Hi Kraft.
Welcome to Beoworld.
What's wrong with the current drivers? If it is just the surrounds that have deteriorated it is usually best to repair the existing drivers as obtaining suitable replacements is likely to be difficult. Fitting new surrounds is not too difficult but it does require care and patience.
Post a photo if you can (click on options when composing a reply, and there is a button to add an attachment) as this will enable us to offer appropriate advise.
Kind Regards,
Martin.
PS. See this thread for a couple of examples of how not to do it!

Hey thanks for the quick answer and the welcome !
As you can see on the pictures the big elements "paper" is cracked on multiple places. The smaller one seems to be ok.
The picture got very big sorry for that, but just click it and it gets better :D
Hi,
Sorry, I should have guessed from the age that these would have paper surrounds, so it's unfortunately not just a case of fitting new surrounds.
The drivers will be very low power by modern standards (likely around 5 Watts max) although sensitivity is generally quite high so the output is still quite reasonable even at these lower power levels, but the paper surrounds wear away with time, or can be torn easily if they are overdriven.
I patched some minor tearing in one of the surrounds of my BM900K with a small piece of black tissue paper soaked in a thin urethane adhesive (as this tends to remain fairly flexible when it dries) and that worked quite well for me - it sounds fine now and certainly much better than the scratchy noise it made with a torn surround. Others here may have better suggestions though.
I would recommend contacting Martin (Dillen) on here as he may be able to offer some advice or may even have a replacement driver lurking in his dungeon.
Okey sad news then!
Was looking forward to hearing then with some music on :D
But cant I put new elements in? Or do i need to change coil and the big capasitor to?
I will send Dillen a msg and see what he says !
And thanks so much for all help!!!
Kraft:But cant I put new elements in?
You can certainly replace the drivers, yes, but the problem will be finding suitable replacements.
