Hi guys. I would like to get multi room in my dinning room. But as we only eat in there son only really used for max an hour a day. A essence would be great but at the moment a bit out of reach.

I was thinking if it would be possible to use an s3 linked to my bv 11 and set as a speaker group and map it to a my button???

Possible, yes!

Ask Steve at Soundsheavenly for an advice on the cable needed.

P.S. You don't just map a Speakers group to a My Button, you map a source with specific sound etc settings.

Aussie Michael:

But was Steve (OP) thinking wireless?

I don't know - he wrote nothing about it.

'Multiroom' doesn't have to be wireless.

I think he was just asking for 'good ideas'.

Hi MM and Micheal

No not thinking wireless. I ordered 2 S3 last week, when I told my wife she told me she had ordered me a A6 (with most of my money I had for the essence I was going to order after xmas) So now I have 2 S3s to put some where.

Steve from Sounds Heavenly, posted this when asked if they could connect to either a Beosound Moment or an Essence.

"Yes, you can easily use a pair of S3 speakers with either a Beosound Moment or an Essence.  To use the Essence with an S3 speaker, please use the cable and the adapter from the links below:-

This then gave me the Idea of either rear speakers or a speaker group for my apple TV (for music) to play in the dinning room. The A6 is going in the bedroom.

However, my experience with the S3 using the Line-in connection was not very promissing.

I did a test with it in one of my ML-linkrooms - connecting it to the PL-output of a BL Active.

First problem: you have to deal with double volume controlling!

One with the Active kit using the Beo4 or ir-eye and another using the control on the S3.

I did of course manage to level things out, in order to use only the control of the Active/Beo4.

But my wife did not quite understood, when (for some reason) the volumen on the S3 was lovered, she had to turn that up again, before using the Beo4.

It was too complicated - not the easy way of 'beo-controlling', that she (and I) was used to.

Sure, you could - with the Essence/Moment - put these into 'fixed line output' and control the volume solely at the S3. But wouldn't that be a bit awkward - especially, when you otherwise use the app or the 'wheely' to control the Essence/Moment.

And last but not least - I found the sound quality by far not as good using the line-input, as when I streamed directly via bluetooth to the S3!

My (!) S3 ended up with my daughter in her kitchen, where she happily feeds it with sound using bluetooth from her phone - just as it was intended for ;-)

You can (theoretically) use it with a PL connection and a seperate Speaker Group from the BV.

But again, you would either have to deal with the double volume controlling or - with the Speaker Group set to fixed line-out - have to control it on the device itself.

I am very interested in reading about your experiences with the setup, you choose. For me it was a 'theoretical good', but not a 'practical good' solution.

Maybe it is just me - and I missed something ;-(

In the end - why not just use the S3/S3's as a standalone solution (using a tablet/bluetooth)? As you wrote, you are only for a shorter time in that room. It would be the easiest setup - and the sound from these small beasts is rather amazing.

Hi

Thanks for the info, Volume control could be an issue but once set it would be on a shelf so it wouldn't be altered. And as my wife says I'm a bloke so can never do the easy option or leave things as they are Big Smile

it's surprising to read that the Line-In connection is worse than Bluetooth!? I guess that's an absolute novelty! Is the line-output of the active so bad or how is this possible!?

This was my experience - did try with the iPad directly connected too. But was not satisfied.

I was using a 'normal' cable from the Active to the S3 - nothing special, but previously used in other test setups.

The output of the BL Active is a PowerLink output - which is a volume controlled line-out.

But I am still interested to hear, what other people - who have tried similar setups - think.

Especially if they have used the SoundsHeavenly cables.

I just described my initial experience - which did not engage me to go on with that kind of setup.
