Hi guys, I'm new to the forum and here's my first post..

Earlier this year I got my BV-11. I'm really happy with it. Picture and sound is great, but most of all - the look of it!
Now I'm looking for a B&O stereo pair to add to the setup.

I'm a music producer and I already have a pair of Genelec's connected to my computer and another pair to my DJ-setup. As with all monitors, the colourisation is minimal and they're excellent for what they're intended for.

Still, I'd like to have another two speakers (B&O) for the TV, mostly for streaming music but also to add an extra dimension while watching movies.

Budget wise, anything between 10.000-30.000SEK (approx. 1100-3250 Euro) is doable.

I'm thinking of either:

1. BeoPlay S8

2. Beolab 8000

3. Beolab 3

4. Beolab 9

5. Beolab 17

These are based on listening experience (haven't heard them all, though!) and what would go well with my interior. Beolab 3, 9 and 8000 are pretty common second hand, here in Sweden. As for S8 and Beolab 17, I'd probably have to buy them new. Hence the budget range, as mentioned above.

I live in an apartment and can't play to loud. So it's important that the sound is rich in details even at a low volume. I'm mostly listening to techno and ambient, btw.

Please let me know what you think!

/ Jesper

I can only say good things about my BeoLab 3's.

I love my beolab 3 too. Their sound compared to their size is really good, they have unlimited placement options (shelf, cupboard, stands,...).

The sound of a beolab 9 is a different class - much more room filling, much more basso.

The beolab 8000 have the wonderful classic design.

In the end, it's a matter of personal taste and budget.

I'll highly recommend the BeoLab 9 as Rear Speakers, BeoLab 18 as Front and definitely add BeoLab 19 as your Sub. With these, you don't even need to open it loud but you'll definitely get Better Sound at any rate. Or if you want it Classy, I'll say do the BeoPlay A9, either on the stand or on the wall at the Back. Simple but tasteful. Good Luck!!!

Brigantinus:

Thanks for your reply, man!

Are you using your 3's stand alone or with a subwoofer? I've heard people saying that with the 3's and 8000's an external subwoofer is a definite must have.

jowus:

That'd be a little overkill for my budget :)
Initially, I'm looking for a stereo pair that'd (pretty much) cover the whole frequency range.

Trust me JesperSamuelson, no matter how you look at it, you still going to buy them. With B&O temptation!! there's no finish line for you. It might sound a little pricy, but the reason you choose B&O is the Lifestyle not the Budget-Style. Lol!!!!!

Hej Jesper,

I have had the BL3:s for quite some time now. They are very nice speakers with a lot of placement options. When I cranked them up when I had visitors, the visitors where looking for a sub somewhere (before I added the BL11:)

They are at decent prices at Swedish Blocket. A year ago I added a BL11 and that surely aded to the sound.

Start with the 3:s and add a BL11 when you have the funds.

My BL11 is sitting on the wallbracket, and that works really well!

Thanks Hiort! Saw your setup in the "Flash your B&O" thread. Looking really good!
I just had a quick lock at the measurements and the BL3's on floor stand (82cm) would go perfectly with my BV-11 46" on easel stand. The 8000's are way to high even though I love the design. Would work well as rear speakers, though.
I was expecting people to recomend the BL17 but it doesn't seems like the WISA feature is worth the extra money. At least from what I've read around here, it's not stable enough, that is.

So, BL3 with a sub (later on) it is! Thanks a lot for your inputs, guys!

Here you have it - the BL17 is an excellent speaker!

You don't need to run them wireless.

There is a tv - and there is a BV

Hi, I used to have beolab 3 and now I have beolab 17s.  They are very different I would not say that one is better than the other.  For my ears the beolab 3 had more detail and they are excelent speakers exspecially if the room is not to large.  The 17s have fuller sound ( if that makes sense) they are more powerful and I like them better.

Brigantinus:

I do like the Beolab 8000 but I feel they have a bit of an 80's vibe to them. The pointy bottom and thicker stand really scream 80's. I'm not that crazy about the black fabric covering them either.

The Beolab 18's really perfected the design though and have a much more modern and timeless design.

Good to have your inputs here too, guys!

Looks like I'll have to get back to my B&O dealer and do another sound comparison.

Millemissen: True! It'd be really smooth to have them running wireless though.

Sibbi: Thanks, good point there. I know I liked the sound of BL17. They had more "crisp" to the sound compared to BL3, if I remember right. I'll have another listen with and without a subwoofer.

Severed_Hand_of_Skywalker: Hehe, agree! I first thought they were pretty ugly but I'm now thinking they're kind of cool ;)
