My recently acquired, flea-market RX 2, has a noisy, "chattery" motor. They seem to be few and far between on the 'net. The only one I found, on eBay, was sold. So, I'm thinking, its already bad. What do I have to lose if I tear it apart? So, I carefully strip it down to parade rest. Each and every part, (including the tiny brushes), layed out in front of me. I clean and Deoxit the brushes and commutator. Lightly grease the bearings. And I see the problem. The little plastic ring that holds the FG servo magnet in place has delaminated and is "splintering" off to the sides. I carefully superglue and hold them back into alignment. Then I put it all back together. (I noted the wiring color codes on a 3x5 card before disassembly.)

Put her back into the table and she purrs like a silent kitten . . . . . . backwards!    Super Angry

The thing that's driving me nuts here, is that you can't reverse the polarity of the assembly. The circuit board only fits onto the motor one direction because of the slot for the 8-pin DIP dual Hall-effect quadrature IC for the FG circuit. I can't put the motor cover on backwards.

But its late, and I'm going to bed. If I figure out what I did wrong, I'll post tomorrow. I'm sure its something I did. Or the BeoGod hates me.  Storm

Correct, but you can reverse the inner part with the coils etc. with relation to the board and housing. Laughing

Ah yes!

Easy enough: you didn't mark the two parts of the motor before disassembling it and the magnet will have rotated at the wrong position in relation to the brushes, hence inverting the rotation.

Martin you are too quick for me! Wink

Ah . . . I think I see what you're saying. I've rotated the magnet housing 180 deg's. I assumed it was symmetrical.

And I take it, I'm not the first person to try to rebuild one of these.  Stick out tongue

Thanks guys. I'll report back tonight.

That did it! Thanks guys, (gals). I would never have thought of that. I'm one step closer to getting this thing operational.

Now there's a new twist. I had the top plate leaning against my workbench, which is in the path from the garage. Apparently, my wife must have kicked it when she brought groceries home. Now its bent, right in the middle, about 20 deg's.  Crying

My fault . . . not hers, for me leaving it in a an awkward place. I hope I can straighten this out. Wish me luck.  Yes - thumbs up

First off, Ebay is not the only place to get parts.  Beoworlders are also a great source!  I have almost an entire RX2 in parts sitting in my attic.  I have two working RX2's - one in the garage system and one in the bedroom.  Every so often someone will sell a whole box of parts on Ebay and I ended getting mine for the princely sum of one dollar!

You can post in the "Wanted" section of the Forum if you upgrade to silver or higher (I think).

Well, thanks for supporting the site!  Good luck with your refurb, and let me know if there are any parts you may need for the RX2.  Two things I know I can't provide:  dust cover & top platter.

Thanks for the offer Rich. One thing I do need is those little motor vibration isolaters, but I'm going to try and make some from surgical tubing.

Btw, how hard did Debby hit you? I had a rough time getting home from work a few days ago. Every road I turned down to go west was blocked off from flooding. I had to go several miles out of my way just to get home.

Well, I sent an email. I don't see PM capability on this forum.  Huh?

Debby was just four days of steady rain.  No bad flooding, but people don't know how to drive on wet roads around here.

Do you want only the suspension or the whole motor ??

I only need the suspension, but since the motor's "bad", it would be fun to see if I could repair it like I did mine. So, if you want to send both, that would be cool, but all I "need" is the suspension.

We had a lot of flooding, but you're right on the "people can't drive" thang.

@ Artie.

Some bad news, I have been searching for 3 days, found the motor, 3 screws and 3 brass bushings, but only one rubber bushing.

Some good news, I made 3 new bushing of compressed cell stuff, used as shock and noise dampening material in heavy machinery.

Here with the motor, as you see there is an extra rubber bushing

I hope you can use it. will ship next week from McAllen TX.

Wow! I didn't expect you to go to that much trouble. Funny, but that's what I was going to try myself. Making grommets out of surgical tubing. I appreciate what you've done. Looking forward to getting that motor.

Thanks;

Artie

Btw, she's up and running now. I got the top plate straightened out pretty good. Now, I just need to test the needle. I'll post pics later today or tomorrow.

This motor is for BG 6500, 5000 I dont remember which, but the motor is the same for BG RX, you may have to change the pulley though.

And as far as I remember, it is noisy.

The one I just rebuilt was noisy too. Its quiet now, but I can't say for sure how long that will last. I just need to play it awhile and see if this fix is temporary or somewhat permanent. If it lasts a year, thats at least something.
