Dear all,

I recently bought a CD6500 from a well known seller of B&O items via eBay. (QDA)
I paid £140.

The unit is in great condition and plays discs perfectly.

However, I failed to read some text in the advert which stated the cd drawer was 'noisy' on opening and closing.

When the cd player arrived I installed it and opened the drawer. It made a dreadful metal-on-metal sound as the tray scraped the front panel as it opened. (Bottom of tray on bottom edge of 'slot' in front panel.)

I questioned the seller, who informed me they tried but couldn't fix it. So because this was well priced and looks beautiful, and I've wanted one for ages and didn't want to see it go, I decided to keep it and have a look myself.

After opening the unit and looking inside I saw the 4 'height adjustment' screws. I raised the level but still couldn't stop the drawer scraping on use.
I then realised the 4 'height adjustment' screws relate to the player bed itself, and that the drawer is separate. (I think so.)

So, I found 2 screws (torx 10) on the underside of the casing. By loosening these off I noticed the tray raised up a bit. So I've used this to make tray adjustments. It's not perfect but it's a lot better.

Questions:

1.    Should the tray move silently when operated?

2.    Was I correct in using the two torx screws underneath the casing to adjust the tray height?

3.    Should the drawer close automatically once a disc is loaded onto it? (Mine doesn't, I have to push it half a cm and it then closes itself)

Thanks in advance, hope everyone's well.

The torx screws adjust the drawer, that's right. There are rubber rings around these bolts inside, between black frame and the drive unit. They desintegrate... so it becomes lower and scratches the front.

When the tray moves it moves very silent. No metal clang...

It does not close automaticly, it needs a small push on the tray.

Really good to hear I guessed right - and thanks very much for the information about the rubber rings. I'll check again and replace.

Also very interesting to read that the drawer movement should be quiet. Perhaps I need to clean and re-lubricate the drawer slider mechanism?

Still. Glad to hear everything's straight forward to remedy.

I adore this player - I'm noticing a lot more clarity and seperation in my favourite music, more exciting than the CD 3500 this has replaced Big Smile
