Beovision 5 or 7-40?

Hi all !

I am considering buying a beovision 5, because the prices now a days are reasonable in my oppinion... But is it possible to get a decent picturequality by using an eksternal digital reciever or should i rather go for the beovision 7-40 instead?

Whats your oppinion, pros/cons?  

the only issue I can see is speaking to a friend who happens to be a bang and olufsen repairer is that they seem to be discontinuing a lot of parts for the older tv's, 

I'd go for the 7-40, if you go for the BV5, buy a HD version. Not many of them around though....

Only a BV5 HD version can handle the hd(ready) picture format's. It has just 1 HD input.

If you would buy a BV7-40, then I would advise to buy a mk3 or higher. These are based on the Beosystem 3 engine. These are more expensive than the MK1 or MK2.

I agree. The picture of the mk3 and above is far superior to the 5, it has HDMI inputs and the Beosystem 3.

Both have great sound, but the 7-40 also has a DVD-Bluray player. There are rumours of a new cheap Beovision coming out in the first quarter 2016. Cheaper than the V1, and of a more conventional design

If you have other B&O devices with the MasterLink interface, you should go for a BV7 MK3 or higher.

Stay away from the MK 2 and 1, if you need it for a main tv.

Even if you want an external box for tv viewing, go for something with FullDH and HDMI.

If no MasterLink in your setup (or you simply start off with B&O by now), you might - as Chris noted - do well waiting for, what will soon come from B&O.

Watch out at your local B&O and/or stay tuned on the forum.

That said - if you could get hold on one of the last (HD) versions of the BV5 at a good price, it is a nice tv ;-)

Mk4 or new for the BV7. The MK3 had the dodgy dark screen of the Samsung 2009 era.  Moxxie will explain this issue! In all, cases, you are buying VERY VERY VERY VERY OLD LCD technology and my word, LCD has improved considerably in the last two or three years. You've really got to be obsessed about a brand to buy into old LCD technology. For instance my old BV6 was incapable of showing black. On the film credits, it was a damn grey instead of black. It was incredibly noticeable even to a non tv viewer like myself. Just be very very careful!

I had a bv5 HD from new, still with family member.It has very good picture and sound, it has one HD input but I connected HD fury to vga to allow another.iconic design to, and the Panasonic commercial panels are built to last.

i own 2 bv7-40 mk 6 led, but before that, I had a mk2, and mk3.

I think the mark 2 was a better TV than the 3, granted it never had hdmi inputs or 1080p panel but I used HD fury 2 so had 2 hdmi inputs so ran sky HD and Apple TV 3 fine.

Most of the TV I watched was 50/50 HD and SD I watched, so the 720p panel was better for that anyways and I also found the mark 3 dark I was swayed by the 1080p hype and better connections.The mark 6 was a revelation and I think it has a better picture than any beovision produced today.

You can get a mark 2 for £500 and a mk3 for double that for a few convenient inputs and 1080 p screen which is pointless on a 40" TV.

Paul,  a beovision 7 is much more advanced in picture and sound  than a bv6-22 which was their first lcd to replace mx 4200 21" and was inferior to that.That is why it was dumped for a bc 6-23 which was far better.

A 2007 bv7-40 mk2 showing an HD image can still compete with a (PC world special ,fully stickered down the sides TV)for a natural, enjoyable image without straining your eyes, we take vision clear for granted but I could not live without it.
