Apologies if this had been discussed before, but does anyone know if a decent USB IR transmitter I could use to transmit the 455khz signals required to control B&O equipment? I've been on a bit of a home automation bender recently and I'm also an avid Python and NodeJS developer :)

Hi,

there's no USB device i know being capable of sending B&O 455 KHz IR signals. But try the Lintronics TT455-RT-238 device. It can receive different IR protocols _and_ serial commands and transmit strong B&O signals via IR (build in or with external IR transmitter LED).

They have excellent support concerning their product! (And i'm not affilated with them )

The box can also control a relais board which can switch several ciruits.

I'd second the lintronic suggestion - very good hardware and easy to set up. I have two. The customer support is first rate. If you are looking to control it from a Mac I have some C code that I can send you that triggers AppleScripts from common key presesses on a beo4 - I used this to control iTunes, Plex, eyeTV etc in my old setup. PM me if you are interested. You would most likely need an RS232 it usb converter as most modern computers don't have RS232 ports, but these are very cheap and reliable in my experience.

An alternative might be a Masterlink Gateway (depending on your other equipment) as this would allow light and control commands from beo4/beo5/Beoremote One from any room with a B&O device to be sent to your computer via RS232 or possibly Ethernet. I've not tried this myself yet, but I intend to pursue this option in the near future via RS232. The MLGW comes up fairly cheap on eBay these days (in my case I bought one for a similar price to the lintronic box). The real benefit is that it will use your existing equipment in a Masterlink network as the ir distribution rather than having to install additional ir eyes etc.

good luck!

Luke
