Hello folks - I just discovered a brand new MM5 in my loft (clearly belonged to my late father) and opened it up - still in its original packaging and used in on my 3300 turntable but the distortion was terrible. Ended up transferring it to a 5500 turntable with the same effect. Surely, this cartridge could not be damaged or tip ruined as it was brand new and never used. Any possible suggestions? Thank you

In my experience old unused carts are the worst. The rubber suspension hardens and this prevents proper tracking.
