Beomedia 1 in standby?

Hi all,

Is it possible to put the BM1 automatically in standby after a while?

After using it, the harddrive keeps on spinning and the system stays on. It looks like it's operating 24/7. I cannot find anything about it in the manual.

I have the latest software and firmware installed and the working is ok.

Please, give me some advice.

A very good question which I ask myself as well. As I'm german I googled by filling "Beomedia 1 ausschalten" ("BM 1 switch off") and the first hit was a link to the archive of the Deutsche Beoworld forum (archievedarchivedforum2.beoworld.org/forum/t/33338.aspx).

Content and result: No stand by switch existing, only hard shut down while system is running. Smooth possibility with keyboard and mouse via Windows.

I guess that BM 1 is seen as a server which is supposed to be always on.

Personally, I really would like to have a stand by switch, maybe somebody has a good idea how BM 1 can be modified.

The BM1 goes in standby automatically.

The hard drive then stops spinning and only a little energy is used for the mainboard. Only if you have an computer with beoplayer or beoconnect on it, the BM1 keeps on working unless you shut down your computer. It keeps n interacting through your network.

Great! So, if Beoconnect is disabled BM 1 goes automatically into stand by, since it is not used via remote. Meaning, if I want to switch it off completely, I should wait a certain period of time after disconnecting or using. Do you know how long it takes?

But, I have the Beomedia 1 in my setup and it is only connected via masterlink.

No computers with Beoport or Beoconnect software are running.

When I listen to Internetradio and I shut down the system by pressing the standby-button on a remote, then I expect the BM1 shuts down after a while in standby. Not a complete shutdown otherwise its not possible to get Internetradio or whatever in, for example, a linkroom or at a startup.

Is there a setting in the maintenance menu where I can set the stanby-time after some time?

The BM1 is still working, even after a stanby-command from my remote. It looks and sounds like the computer is still up and running and I can hear the fan working.

I hope you have the solution for me ( and all others with a BM1).

The only way to switch it of is by pressing the stanby-switch at the backside, but thats more a workaround till now, not a definitiv solution.

Same here, my BM1 does not go to standby. Would also be interested to have a solution to send it to standby.....

As far as I know BeoMedia 1 is a Windows XP/embedded-computer with a software layer on top. It is probably designed to always be on and only shut down the hard drive with the windows energy settings. Which in one way is very unfortunate since it doesn't have a very power efficient cpu.

It could have been designed to use wake on lan but I think it would have been hard to make it work with masterlink, in that way it would have been in standby like your computer can be. For instance I can wake up my Macs via the network when I want access from another computer.

Perhaps it could be possible to port the Beomedia 1 computer to a more power friendly computer with a mini logic board made around the atom-processor that consumes very little power. And probably make the BeoMedia even better :)

But I don't have one so I won't even try :P

Perhaps the logic board is custom made for B&O but I think they use a common board and have their own connectors on a daughter board connected via pci or something. 

As mentioned, the bm1 has a suspend mode.

Only power is used for the Wake on Lan , or via the ML board. Can't imagine a more effecient use of power. The fan also stops also working during suspend. If it keeps working then the BM1 is triggered by a different computer in the network. 

What do I have to do to send the BM1 in the supend mode. The only PC in the network with Beoplayer software is off, and all sources are stopped and the whole ML-system is off, but the BM1 ist sill on :-(

So I guess there must be a tweak that I'm not aware of.....

If I understand beobuddy right, it is an automatic to get the BM 1 in the suspend or stand by mode. In the thread of the old forum I was linking to earlier, there was another member pointing in the same direction, which I did not really understood at that point in time.

@marcus_m: What do you mean saying "the BM 1 is still on"?

After tonights soccer game I tested the behavior of mine:

- Switching it on, it starts up

- No connection, no activity: A slight and constant sound can be heard, what gives me the impression, something is running; LAN lights are on, also power light

- Connected with my Mac via Beoconnect: Some sort of activity can be heard

- Listening to N.Music: A constant activity is perceivable

@beobuddy: So I would assume, when being in suspension mode, a slight sound can be heard, but the BM 1 is "asleep"?!

@ Rolf: to me it looks like the BM1 is running, as the HDD and the fan are running. Also the power light is on.

Yesterday evening I diconnected the LAN so that the BM1 will not be disturbed by any ethernet participant, but today moniring the BM1 was still not in sleep mode...... So I geuess there must be some trick to enable the suspend mode beobuddy mentioned.
