I finally received my BeoLab 14 2.1 system which I am adding to my BeoLab 14 5.1 system and was excited to hook up the subwoofer first to have a 5.2 system with Left Sub & Right Sub.  I don't have the mounting options for the 2 speakers yet. The first thing I noticed is the BeoLab 14 sub will not function without the satellites.  I could get sound from it from the BeoSystem 4 speaker setup (white noise or rumble) but nothing when playing music.  I hooked up the two satellites and just placed them on the floor so I could test the subwoofer.  Subwoofer and satellites started working.

So did I notice anything different?  I've only played a few songs so far, but on a couple of songs I could detect some mid bass directionality that I haven't noticed from this system before. It definately looks like it will be a different experience with two subwoofers, but I will need to listen some more.

Now I am wondering since the satellites are required and they are currently set up as front left and right, I am hoping that if I reassign them to something else I will still get the left sub.  I currently have two powerlink cables going to the sub, so I have the little plug in the S/C connector removed.

Perhaps you could "trick" the thing into working without the sats if you substituted an equivalent power resistor? Either 8 or 4 ohm depending on the satellite impedance.

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus. Sad

I called my B&O dealer in Virginia to get prices on ceiling mounts, grills, and 3 more satellites... and I received the baddest of news.  I better buy the stuff sooner than later. At the end of the month they are closing.  That's 3 stores down in a short period of time.  That leaves the Philly store, which is quite a distance, that I've never been to.

I have the Beolab 14 subwoofer with no satellites connected to my bv11-55. Works like a charm.

Sounds very interesting to hook up 2 Beolab 14 for a 7.2 setup.

That is interesting.  How do you have it hooked up?   When I have that system working with the two sats plugged into FRONT, the sub works fine.  If I unplug the sats I get no sound from the sub.  That is with 2 PL cables going to S/C and FRONT.

It looks like I will be buying an additional 3 sats sooner than I intended (and ceiling brackets) so it will end up a 10.2 setup!

CAT cable between bv11 and Beolab 14 sub in the front socket as supplied by the B&O dealer. Sub is set as Beolab 14 subwoofer in PL1

Thanks!  That is one configuration I did not try.  Is the sub from a 2.1 system which has a plug in the S/C socket?

It is from a 2.1 system. Haven't noticed that it is plugged. Can check later tonight
