A dumb question from a newbie.

I've got the beoplay s8 satellites sit next to my SONY TV.

I am looking to wire the s8 to my SONY TV while airplay music from my mac thru apple tv so all audio will come thru the speakers.

please correct me and any advices welcomed

To be honest I don't really see the S8 is needed if all of your audio is being output by the TV.. I have one with an Essence plugged into it along with my Sony TV (I don't have the TV into the Essence as I want to be able to use the TV remote to do volume). It's 'OK' but I'm a little disappointed that it takes 8 seconds to switch sources and even then it's not reliable if, for example, the TV is playing a quiet talking scene.

Sony tvs have variable audio out which means you can connect the s8 directly to the headphone audio out on the sony. It would then require you to into the sonys audio settings in the menu and set the audio to variable from fixed.

From there you will be able to control the volume of the s8 with the sonys remote control, when the s8s detects a signal from the sony when it's switched on it will automatically wake up the s8, the cable you will need however is a powerlink rj45 to 3.5mm jack cable im not sure if that cable comes with the s8 however.

The connection hub allows you to connect the TV with optical into the hub, anything connected to the TV will come through the speakers connected to the hub and you use he TV remote as normal. Simple

Thanks Chris

Bought the Beoplay s8 just for my TV and the iMac.

But becuz the iMac doesnt sit close to the TV I am trying to figure out how to stream music wirelessly without having the long cable running around the living room.

Thanks mate

more questions

1. If I connect the s8 to the headphone audio out and change the audio setting on SONY, would the sound come through the s8 or the tv if I stream music via an Apple TV?  If it does come thru the s8, would this setup compromise the sound quality vs. having the s8 directly plugging into the iMac

2. What's the difference for having a Connection Hub vs. connecting s8 to the headphone audio out?? the hub itself costs $300+ so Im not sure if it's worth to get one.

3. Is there ANYWAY to achieve wireless music streaming directly from an iMAC/Iphone???

you could either have the hub or go the audio out route, it is up to you to decide, if you get just the s8 without the hub then you would connect the rj45 end to the sub with the 3.5mm jack going into the audio out on the sony.

From there you have to go into the audio settings of the sony and set the output to variable from there the sound will come out from the s8 with the sony tv acting as the volume source for the speakers using the tvs remote of course.

Which sony model do you have just out of curiosity??

With the hub you are getting a digital connection so  pcm sound instead of analogue with the headphone jack.
