Apologies if this has been discussed before.
I have a BeoSound 5 Encore laying around which I need to connect to some speakers. I was considering the new BeoPlay A6, as I would also get the benefit of pairing a Bluetooth/AirPlay device such as my phone with the speaker.
Here are the available connections of the BS5 Encore.
So I'm assuming I would have to connect the Heapdhone port on the BS5 Encore to the Line-In on the BeoPlay A6? Is there any quality loss connecting via this method over say, Powerlink cable? I know the A6 cannot accept PL connections, but I was considering another pair of speakers such as the BL3's. But then I would likely need a sub with that setup, and it would cost substantially more.
Or there is the A9..
Would appreciate thoughts/advice.

So a possible problem with this setup, is that because the volume level isn't transmitted via powerlink, the volume would have to be set on the BS5 Encore, and then on the BeoPlay A6 as well. Not ideal, but not too much of a major issue.
You can use "Powerlink-to-Line in" cable to connect your A6. This is how I connected it to Beocenter 8500 and it works perfectly (also the A6's line-in autosense).

Thanks for the suggestion! I wonder if with this cable I would still have to adjust the A6 volume independently to the BS5 Encore. Or what difference it would be to the Heapdhone out -> line in option.
In this case volume level would be a combination between BS5 level (as a line-in input level) and A6 level as your.
If that is possible, the elegant solution would be to set ("lock") your default BS5 volume level to high and control only A6 volume. This is needed because Powerlink signal level is comparably low.
Also, you would need to set your line-in sensitivity in A6 setup to high.
Oh, and to directly answer your question: yes, you would need to independently adjust it as it is a feed to line-in nonetheless.
Sounds like a good solution thanks! I'm pretty sure you can select a default volume in the BS5! But it would have been nicer to control everything from one device. But you can't have it all I guess unless you go the proper Powerlink speaker route.

My experiments with 'double dealing volume control' were diappointing.
Best thing was to set the source device (in your case the Encore) at a relatively high volume and do all volume controlling via the 'speaker' (your A6).
But I often got them mixed up - especially my dear wife could not understand why she sometimes would have to deal with two volume controls.
Endresult - I ditched the experiments!
On the other hand - try it out to see, if it works for you.

The Playmaker is different - you can configure that to fixed line out (and don't ever have to touch it again). That is what I have been doing for years (it is connected to the A.Tape input of my old BeoMaster).
