I have the following speakers attached to an Avant 55 and have a Moment as a streaming source from Deezer and a Twonky server (Itunes).

Are my speakers connected to the right connections? (they are in a very typical centered "square" around  the listening position at a distance of about 12ft to it)

Music

Beolab 20 - FL, FR

Avant 55 - FC,FC,FC

Beolab 6000 - RL, RR

Beloab 19 - Rear Sub

Video

Beolab 20 - FL, FR

Avant 55 - FC,FC,FC

Beolab 6000 - RL, RR

Beloab 19 - Rear Sub

I ask as with the Video setup gaming on the on the PS4 is nothing short of Epic - likewise movies.

With Music the rear sub appears dormant and the rear left and right play a rather odd supporting role to the 20's.

It almost sounds better (subjective and I guess I mean more room filling) with the rears set as an additional FL and FR.

The Sub still does nothing as I guess all the lows get filtered to the 20's.

I'm new to all this and would really appreciate some advise

Mike

As MM mentions, have a read of the technical sound guide as it really is an excellent resource.

Broadly speaking, since most music sources consist of only two channels, I would suggest including just the 'lab 20s in the music speaker group as adding additional channels will just destroy your stereo imaging. The 20s are at least as capable in the low end as the 19 so adding the sub is unlikely to yield any improvement for music. In fact as I understand it, if you create a speaker group with just the 20s and the 19, the 19 will remain silent as the avant already knows that sending the bass to the 20s is a better option.

Kind Regards,

Martin.

Technical guide was exactly what I was looking for - although clearly not looking hard enough!!

Many thanks

Hi Mike,

A couple of small comments.

1. The automatic bass management setup is routing everything to your BL20's and nothing to your BL19. If you wish to override this, you can do it in the Filtering and Redirection Level menus in the Advanced controls of the Bass Management. The Technical Sound Guide should have all the information you need to do this. If not, please ask! :-)

2. Personally, I would "cheat" a little and set the Avant Centre loudspeaker about 2 dB too high, and the Avant's Left and Right loudspeakers about 1 dB too low. This will help to centre your image at the television.
