I am trying to decide between a 55 Avant vs a 55 Beovision 11.
My main concern is sound quality, the price difference is less important.
Besides a subwoofer (if necessary) I won't be able to have any other speakers connected.
I finally got my Panasonic to display Netflix 4k and my old eyes can't tell the difference from 2m so the 4K of the Avant is not important to me.
It will be wall mounted so the very cool floor stand of the Avant is not a factor.
I assume (perhaps incorrectly) that they are built on the same software platform so they are equally 'future proofed'.
For people who know both what do you guys recommend? Any advice very helpful.

Hi Phult,
Both are hifi like sound quality and both, possibly excellent picture quality when fed with a HD signal. It really is down to design preference as the two are at opposite ends of the spectrum. When seen together, you'll instantly have a favourite and it'll come from the heart rather than the head. Follow it.
A good sales person wanting a big sale like this should offer to let you try both in your home surroundings.
Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.
To answer what I know; whilst the Avant features a 4K panel, it also has other technical advantages that enhance picture quality, specifically the ability to measure room brightness and to set the TV accordingly. This is due to having a lightly enhanced version of the BeoSystem 4 chassis. Part of this also includes updated HDMI 2.0 (1-5) ports and specifically port 1 for HDCP 2.2 - this bit is important for the new boxes that are coming.
You are right, they share the same software which has been the single biggest piece of progress B&O has made this past 4-5 years and the same approach in the speakers as well now; Essence, A9, A6, Beosound 35 etc.
Future proofed may be an over expectation, but get an Avant and you will likely enjoy several years without worrying whether you can plug into the latest services or external boxes which is the main thing. I'm sure you'll hear about other technologies like HDR etc, but the key thing is to time-in with where the box providers are going to settle and we are now clear on that with Sky having declared their specs. All of us are good on HDMI 1.4 for now, with an anticipated update to HDMI 2.0 in the future which is covered by the Avant (and I don't believe the 11 does.) As regards things like HDR, its for the 1% who'll watch the best content from a 4K Blu-Ray. I watch streamed movies and Sky, so its irrelevant to me for the next 3-4 years at least by which time my Avant will be reaching almost 6-years old.
The only thing we B&O users need worry about is Bluetooth support for Sky Q which does need Struer to think about an update to their PUC system to extend beyond IR into Bluetooth control.
When I recently looked at the pictures of both the Avant and the 11 in a B&O store, I preferred the picture of the 11. Looked less 'artificial' to me.
Besides that, the Avant's 4K ability may be overtaken in very little time where the HD of the 11 is end-of-development.
To be honest, in the end I think the 11 is a B&O classic, and the Avant just another TV, but that is my personal opinion. I would buy an 11 .

Both TV's has the exact same video engine but Avant does more upscaling to 4K (which it does very well). I think the difference you noticed was due to settings made in the shop. I think both TV´s are very elegant and very B&O.

Hi,
I have a BV11-46 and I am more than happy with it.
I agree with what have been said, BV11 is a classic design from B&O, Avant looks like any other flat TV i.e Samsund or LG except the speaker magical movement. Actually this feature worried me a little bit
When I compared the 2 in store I also agree that picture looked more natural on the BV, I guess the upscaling from the Avant on HD content brings something artificial.
Sound wise, especially if you plan to add a sub, I would go for the BV. I think the sound of the BV is more crisp and "musical".
Anyway, even if it's complicated it's a good problem to have ;)

Chris Townsend:The 11 also adjusts the picture for room brightness.
Sorry - to be more specific then: The Avant features: Room adaptation; Automatic Picture Control with Chromatic Room Adaptation adjusting the picture performance to the light conditions in the room. Whereas the BV11 only has Adaptive Contrast.
Chris Townsend:Why not a 7-55. Better HD picture than both thanks to it using local dimming, and not the dynamic contrast, the 7-6 speaker is almost as good as the Avant's, and it comes with a brilliant blue ray player
Local Dimming does have benefits that improve the perceived contrast of the picture by illuminating more of the correct part of the screen. However, you could also argue that the various controllers inside a BeoSystem 4 to aid picture quality and control of the lighting have advanced over the 6+ years between the two chassis designs and only getting better with more firmware releases.
The BeoPlay V1 also has adaptive contrast using a built-in light sensor and an advanced piece of software that will adjust not only the brightness, but the colours and image quality of your TV according to the surrounding light.

As a BV11 owner you are a bit biased :). And no, the Avant certainly does not look like any other TV, although it is much more discrete – which I don't see as a bad thing. Both are very classy TV´s.
In regards to not being a classic :)
Michael, how can any 55" TV be discreet :') To me, my absolute nightmare!
Thank you all for the input. As sound is probably my #1 concern I think I am leaning towards the Avant. Dealers seem to have a big Avant promo right now so my guess is they are clearing stock for an update. So will wait a few more weeks to see what happens.

BeoGreg:We need a new tv right now. If you look at what's out there, V1 and BV11 look like dinosaurs. I don't say they are bad products, I say all the time how great is my BV11 in term of picture and sound, but they are less than up to date and they cost huge money compared to the plastic competitors. Never been impressed by the picture of the Avant (compared to my smaller BV11) so I believe it also needs some vitamins. Now.

@Michael
As with the current SmartTV platform you don't have to use it, when it becomes Android-based.
As long as they continue mapping some of the essential functions (Spotify etc etc) as sources, I shall be happy with any platform. Most of the Smart-stuff is crap anyway.

There is a tv - and there is a BV

You are totaly right. What I prefer is the picture of my BV11 after several days of settings at home for my likings (thanks to KMA and Flatpanels) vs an Avant in a shop with, I believe, standard settings.
Can't comment on the avant. However the sound quality on the bv11 46 is great. For me you really need a subwoofer as well - for movies and music. However the sound is fantastic for a thin enclosure. I went for a bk400 sub and the sound is now amazing. I do like bass though. Also I think the bv11 looks like a feature as well as a TV. Beautifully designed and great for all your sound and media. P
Two separate issues. Changing/improvng technologies and the physical design or appearance of the two TVs.
The Avant has conventional proportions, but with moving/drop-down speakers. The BV11 is a less conventional (but arguably more B&O) design.
I chose the BV11-40 because it fitted a section of wall to the inch, and it's proportions and motorised hinge were ideal for my requirements. The Avant would not fit my avalable wall space and the stand and wall options would not suit.
As far as the changng technologies are concerned there will always be something supposedly improved coming in 6 months. You will never be happy if you becme obsessed with what might be comng. Choose from what's available. The sound and pictures of both models are surely more than adequate right now.
