I recently bought a BeoMaster 8000 as a parts unit for my existing 8000, but I have an eye to eventually having both up and working. When I got the new unit it was only putting out sound from the RH channel and the heatsink was getting awfully warm on that side (I'm guessing a bad trimmer on the output amp).

Those problems are for another day, though. In the meantime, what I did notice was that the volume and tuning wheels were both inoperative, and that plugging in the panel from my other unit worked just fine, so something is wrong there. Both wheels turn freely, there are no obvious wiring breaks, and the various bits seem to be in the right places when compared with the working unit.

Any suggestions as to where should I start digging to troubleshoot this issue?

Common problem. Replace the IR senders.

Does one need to replace the entire assembly, or just the individual device on the PCB?

Do you have a recommendation for a source?

You only replace the discrete sender LEDs.
I don't remember the specs but they are not all that critical.
I have suitable replacements. Email me if you cannot find some elsewhere.
