Does anyone know if the BV Avant 55 has the PUC codes for the Oppo 105 BR Player?
I know the Oppo 103 is known to B&O PUC coding. Can we assume 103 = 105 in terms of PUC controllability or is it likely to be something different?

Yep, the 103 and 105 use the same remote, so the PUC will be the same.

May I ask - what would be the reason for you (using the Avant) to prefer the 105 and not just buy the 103?

Because I don't know the difference between them with respect to the PUC control.
Also the Oppo 105 has SPDIF-out which is useful if you have Beolab 5's. I need further research but there is no point if the PUC is not compatible/not in the Avant 55 PUC list.
I'm pretty sure the 103 has both coaxial and optical SPDIF outputs too.
Bear in mind though that they may only be useful for audio as you would probably end up with lipsync issues whilst outputting video to the Avant and digital audio direct to the BL5s
