Hi

My wonderful BV3 has come to the point where there are no longer any channels for it. I've tried to extend it's life but the wife wants a bigger screen....

So I'm not going to start a war over this at home.
I'm going to buy a TV, probably Samsung or Sony. Probably 48".

I want to connect it to my BC2. There are several issues, that I need help with.

How do I:
- connect TV to BC2?
- connect BC2 to 4*BL3+1*BL2
- control TV+appleTV with BEO4 (some sort of box, any recomendations)

Today every thing is connected to the BV3 TV's AC3 module, this is ofcause not an option in the future setup.

Kind regards.

Hi,

BC2 = Beocenter 2?
If yes, you can only connect 2 Beolab 3 and the Subwoofer as this system has no option for surround sound. Physical you can connect the 4 Beolabs, yes, but you'll still have stereo sound.

1.) You can easily connect your new TV with a simple line out cable which you put from e.g the headphone output or the line output (maybe it is configurable in your TV) which feeds into the aux input of your Beocenter 2.

You simply activate AUX on your Beocenter 2 to listen to the TV audio.

2.) you can ad a Beolink converter 1611 to the Beocenter 2 and connect the new TV with its headphone/line out to the Beolink converter. This is a more intuitve way of activating the TV audio on your Beocenter 2 as it than listens to the "TV" command and runs the TV audio through the Beolink converter to your Beocenter 2.
I have this setup with an older Beosound 3000 and it works easy.

3.) You could get an surround preamplifier if you want surround sound with the Beolabs or you can watch out for a Beosystem 3 from B&O if you want the B&O control world.

4.) Control of TV and AppleTV with Beo 4:
You need an ir translator and one of the easiest solution is the lintronic TT238: http://lintronic.dk/TT455RT238.aspx

Easy to program and reliable

Another option would be to get a Beo 5 remote which are extremely cheap nowadays and configure that to your needs. This is more complicated than the Lintronic solution but it is more comfortable/flexible if you need special buttons which you can name the way you want.

BeThankful:

I assume the scart connection will be a problem. No modern TV accept that, and I would not bother to get converters. I would buy a bluray player. Anything else will look very bad on a modern screen.

BeThankful:

- connect BC2 to 4*BL3+1*BL2

There is no surround decoder in BC2, if that is what you are after. So you will not get surround sound from your BC2.

BeThankful:

Not aware of any solution to this.

I would suggest that you look on the second hand market for a more modern Beovision. Then you can make full use of the speakers you have and also control your AppleTV with the Beo4 remote,

Scart is no problem, as I wrote above you can simply connect the TV to the AUX-In of the Beocenter 2. These are standard cinch/RCA connectors as you can see on this picture:
http://www.lauritz.com/Item/ItemImage/ItemImagePage.aspx?LanguageId=1&ItemId=2982998&ImageNo=4&ImageCount=5

Beo 4 control of everything with infrared is possible with the mentioned Lintronic TT238 device! Even if the device is not in the database you can simply copy the original remote commands with that device to allow translation for Beo 4 use.

The only problem is the surround sound as Beocenter 2 only is a stereo system...

Agree on that regarding sound.

I was thinking about getting a videosignal out from BC2 into a modern TV. That will be a problem if you want decent picture quality.

Ah ok, depending on the TV the scaling capabilities are ok and for example my LG Oled TV had an adapter from scart to the TV-input as delivery contents.

If you want to keep using the Beocenter 2 as a DVD player for the new TV, you should test if you can live with the quality. If you are 3-5 meters away from the TV you won't see a great difference.
If the quality is not ok you can buy a scaler like e.g. the Pioneer PDA-V100hd and put it between the Beocenter 2 and your new TV.
The Pioneer is a simple and great machine for those tasks!

Hi

Sorry for going on MUTE for a week.

Surround is a Minor problem. I havn't used it for years :-)

I'll be looking into the solutions, BEO5 is not an option (says the wife)....

SCART is not a problem most TV's still have RCA, and yes scaling will be an issue. I'll have to live with that. The BC2 (BeoCenter2) is mostly used for music. Video is normaly streamed.

I won't be buying af 4K TV.  ;-)

Thanks for helping, I'll need to do some testing (with a TV that I have borrowed) before desiding on a solution. I'll post my solution in this thread.
