After a brief moment of what can only be described as utter insanity, I have decided not to sell my beloved Beomaster 8000. The Pentas can go into storage, although I shall miss their presence in the lounge.

The Pentas did expose the lack of base my Beovox 5000 flat panel speakers produce, so despite reading mixed reviews I decided to take a punt on a Beovox 'Cona' sub. It was described as in VGC, it arrived undamaged and it was indeed in fab condition...at £100, I dont think I was robbed.

With heart in hand anticipating another unwise investment I hooked it up via the BM8000, and  you know what, it sounds great. It makes a very noticable and pleasant difference as it diverts some of the hard to deal with bass away from the flat panels.

So in my very uneducated opinion the 'Cona' is a success...and maybe not just for those dinky little speakers it was designed for.

Good for you.

I bought one for about $100 USD a few year back and pair it with a set of CX-100's and played it on a Beocenter 9000 and then a Beosystem 5000. I was not very impressed. I thought both sets had a richer fuller sound with RL60's.

I have not used it since - perhaps I should try pairing it with a different set of speaker. Perhaps it could smooth the bass on a set of S-75's. Never try - never know.

I think they're a really great speaker actually. They add a lot of subtle bass to some CXs for example without overdoing it.

Like you, I picked up a good condition boxed black one for £100 a few years ago. I don't think I'd ever get rid of it!
