Hi all
My BM 4500 feels a bit warm at the rear of the unit at the heat sinks, and noticeably to the left hand side when looking from the front. Is this normal for this area to feel quite warm?
They are called heat sinks for a reason - they are there to sink heat. It's quite normal for them to warm up a bit. They should never get so hot that you can't hold your fingers on them though, except perhaps after a long run at high volume.
One thing you could do is to check how the mains voltage selector is set on the unit. If it's still at 220 where it probably was set 25 years ago, switch it to 240. Disconnect the mains plug first. This might make the unit run a bit cooler.

Many thanks all.
It was already set to 240 V. It was fun taking it apart though, and it's now de-dusted
