Just noticed that the average selling price of a BV5 on eBay is around £200!
For some time whilst plasma was perceived as the best quality the BV5 was still able to command prices around £2000 even when 10 years old. It seems that having iconic design qualities is not enough in the face of improving technologies.
it also probably helps not to need 2 to 4 people to pick up a modern large screen.
Only 200 GBP? In Sweden a second hand BV5 cost around 820 GBP. The MX7000-8000 still hold a price around 70-150 GBP, and there is quite many on the market.
I think B&O have good second hand value. And if I wasn't such a geek when it comes to "must have the latest tech" I would love to have a MX8000 as a TV. Looks good and still great picture.

I believe that the BV5 has simply become technically too outdated. A superb SD picture quality back in 2005 won't carry far if you need to watch HD from a source you cannot even connect. It may be OK if you have one now and it works for your needs, but who wants to buy one now and call all his friends over to carry it? Thus, low prices...

So true but it's also the age - 11+ years - surely thats the lifespan of a TV?
Bought mine about 2 yrs ago, in the uk for £150.............yes £150, and has been a great tv.

What I find with picture quality is depends on the source, I watch some stuff on bbc and the picture is more "real" and better that my friends bang uptodate led thing!!, but I suppose tech moves on

Must make it very important for resellers to turn over stock at a reasonably fast rate and to drop trading the older technology based products.
I would guess that in another 10 years when most BV5's have failed the remaining few will develop an increasing value for their rarity.

I would absolutely hog wild if I lived in Europe. I would love to have a BV5 in my livingroom and maybe an AV9000 in my bedroom, a BV1 for the kitchen. Lately I've been dreaming of adding a BV6 to my computer setup at work.
While I don't really watch much TV anymore - I would be thrilled to have these pieces of hardware in my apartment.

I still have my 9 or so year old Panasonic EDTV, a plasma that's only 480p. To this day it has a more watchable picture than the LCD sets I've seen, as long as you sit far enough away, 6 or 7 feet or so, to not see the pixels. Buttery smooth motion, sharp and clear, no artifacting, good contrast and black levels. I've had people look at it and think it was a 1080p set. New isn't necessarily better as far as video displays go. So I can easily believe your picture looks more "real" than LCD sets!

This is exactly why the first and last BeoVision I will likely be a BV9. It has all the visual performance (plasma) I could possibly want and the best looks of any BeoVision television ever made. EVAR.

People don't want CRT-TVs even if you give it to them as a present!Beovsion Avant 32 with Remote for ~25,- EURO... unbelievable but true. I sold my old MX TV on ebay for a sad 1,- Euro.
It's a shame as you can get converters - I use one with an HDMI source on a BV6-26 and it works great. I still hanker after a BV9002 from the 80's but they are getting less and less easy to find and to be honest I dont know where I would put it - but it would be great to have one.

I took my MX4000 to the local recycling centre!
I have, however, kept an MX1500 'for posterity'

I don't believe you can sell a CRT in Sweden, not even if it's B&O. These sellers are dreamers living in the past.

I had to Google it to see a picture of the BV9 as I'd forgotten, but you're right, it's a stunner. I hope/suspect that OLED will equal or exceed the performance of plasma, but I've yet to see one setup well. I spent a good 10 minutes or so watching a 4K OLED 65 inch LG at the store, I have a VT series 65 inch Panasonic plasma. The OLED was setup to retina searing brightness, as all demo sets outside of high end video/audio dealers (a dying breed) are but there appeared to be smooth motion and that there was enough contrast and such that adjusted well it would look very good, perhaps better than my Panasonic. I'm just hoping that my Panny lasts long enough for the prices to drop on the OLED sets.
