I have got a faulty BG 2000 from a friend. Nothing happens when I plug it in, just a slight hum from the cabinet. I've opened it for inspection but I can't see what' s wrong.
The BG 2000 is very different from BG 4002/4004 which I have some experience with.
Should it go to the recycling centre?

Particular the old one, type 5240, is a rare version (with its black alu-strip on the dust cover) and one of the better sounding B&O turntables. It belongs actually to the same series as BG1200/1202/1203/3000 which are all very desired and collectable.

It's type 5244.
If it has not belt, it could be in playing position, and humming is from motor.
Without belt it cant return to rest position.

I have put the Beogram together again. The belt is on and now there is no humming. Unfortunately it is stil completely dead. I think i'll start with the LIFT button to see if there is any connection.
How can I test if the motor is working?

Are the 1203 and the 2000 similar apart from the lids?

It looks exactly the same inside. It's very clean and there are no broken parts, so I can't see why it shouldn't work, but it doesn't........
It's very dry, can't see any oil or grease at all. Is it supposed to be like that?

It is like my 1203 then. It is supposet to work when you pushed lift, thin rod is twisting white lever "offplace" and allowing microswithc in white box acting.and center cog turning. It is stupid simple really :) Moteor should start as soon as microswithc acts.

The BG 2000 is now running. To be honest I don't know how except from some TLC. Thanks Orava for explaining how the deck works, very different from the BG 4002/4004 I have brought back to life.
There is a little noise from the deck when running. Should I oil and lubricate? If yes, where?
The lid is off. Does anyone know how to put it back?
The speed change mechanism tends to freeze up because of old grease inside all the movable parts, also the motor may make a little noise if not taken apart and cleaned, lubricated and adjusted, also check Oravas thread with the felt pad in the speed mechanism, just oiling wont help, the only way is to disassemble and clean it.

The Beogram 2000 is now put together and running well. I'm glad I didn't take to the recycling centre:-)
The bottom of the metal part of the lid slids in between the top plate and the wood cabinet, but isn't there a way to attach it. If I'm not careful when opening it, it can slide backwards.
I have not seen unbroken lid, so I'm only guessing... But my guess is that plastic side slides are so thick they keep lid on its place. Those plastics are often broke as in mine.
I think you are right. There seem to be something missing on the left side of the lid. I'll post a picture later.
