Hello all.  I would like some help please.  I have set up a Link Room with a Boevision 8 32 in the bedroom and a Mk5 Beovision 7-40 as a main in the lounge. I have a 3200 on the system and 3500 at the end of the ML line.  The 7-40 is set at Option1 and the Link (8-32) as Option 6, I have both ML and RF connected to and from the appropriate connectors (I have not used an RF Amp).  The distance between the two is about 10 meters cable length.  I have just had the 8-32 flashed to the latest version STBC.

I can select radio and CD (from the 3200) and get great sound.  I can call up SKY, DVD and DTV from the 7-40 and get a decent picture (SD) in all cases but no sound at all on any of these options.

I have done lots of head scratching and re-read the manual but still no sound!

Any help or suggestions would be most helpful.

Cheers.  Peter

Hi Peter,

what happens if you press in link room (LINK-)AV (via LIST) and then DTV or DVD, can you hear the sound?

On the 7-40, there is a menu option somewhere for "link tuning" and under there you will find an option for "tuner type"?

It will be set to B/G or I.  Whichever it is, change it to the other and you will then get sound through the link TV.

I don't know what it is, or why it works but we had the exact same problem a few months ago with a used TV we bought.

This might not be the answer, but sometimes I find I lose sound on my linkroom TV....as the scart cable comes loose on the back on the Sky box! You still get a great picture, but no sound. It comes loose annoyingly easily, too. The scart cable is required to handle the sound and picture for the linkroom TV from the Skye box.

Hi Rauber

OK so I added Link-AV to the list on the Beo4, and when it is selected and I select a video source (DTV/SKY) I get the sound but no picture!  Is this going in the right direction?

ML audio for a video source comes over the RF cable.  Currently you have a mismatch in the tuner type on the master and link TVs, so you hear no audio.

By doing LINK-AV you are puling the audio over the ML cable, which works, in the same way your CD and radio sound works.

Follow my advice above (which is not exact, as I am traveling and this hotel doesn't hae a B&O for me to check on) and your audio will start to work

Hi rednik.

I will try this as soon as my other half has finished watching East Enders on the 7-40!

I will let you know how I get on.

Cheers.

Hi Peter,

if you press first LINK DTV and then LINK-AV DTV you should get sound and picture in link room. Sound is distributed via ML (stereo) and picture via RF.

To get picture and sound (only mono) via RF, you have normally only press LINK DTV. If there is no sound, problem could be as rednik described. On my BV 7-40 Mk 6 there is under LINK an option called MODULATOR, this has to be set ON.

Proably the issue belongs to the fact that you don't use the RF link amplifier. With my Avant I also didn't use the amplifier, but after I sorted out the Avant and use the BV 7-40, I added the amplifier because my dealer told me it's necessary.

Good luck!

In the OP peter states he can get picture but no sound on Sky, DTV and DVD.  If this is the case just make the change detailed and I am 95% certain it will work.  There is no need for him to complicate things by using the link command, unless the same commands are assigned to the BV 8 in the bedroom, which I assume they are not from his origina post.

No doubt, rednik. But for me it was very helpfull to know that I can ONLY get STEREO sound if using the AV command and also to understand the masterlink system for audio and video sources!

Hello again.  I've had a look for the menu option you suggest I change but I cannot find it.  It it in the user level or in the engineering level?

Cheers.

Hi everyone.  I now have a great sound as well as an improved picture!

Changed the Modulator on the 7-40 to ON and changed the Tuner type on the 8-32 from B/G to I and it all works a treat. It has improved the video quality and sounds great, even in mono.

The only thing I have to sort out now is getting the Apple TV Mk2 on the 7-40 to work on the Linked 8-32!

Many thanks to everyone for all your help, it's much appreciated.

Cheers.

Hi Peter,

nice to hear that it works now, congratulations!

And now you also know how to get stereo sound in link room, helpfull when watching music shows on TV.

To get picture and sound from your ATV 2 in link room, you need some digital-to-analogue converters, because only analogue connected sources are distributed to link rooms via Masterlink and RF. Go for a second ATV 2 for your BV 8-32 because it´s the only solution to get HD pictures and digital sound from ATV 2 on Beovisions in link room!

Cheers

Hello Rauber

I had pretty much come to the same conclusion regarding the ATV Mk2.  I will have to see whats on offer and put my hand in pocket once again!

As the BV8-32 has only one HDMI and that is being used by a HD PVR, and the ATV Mk2 has only HDMI out, I assume an HDMI to Component/audio lead will be required?

Cherrs.

Peter

Hi Peter,

I think you need a HDMI-Splitter, but you have to switch the splitter manually when you want to change the source.

I assume the Gefen-Splitter, which can be controlled via PUC, doesn't work with a BV 8-32.
