Hi guys,
I have been looking at a beovision for a ages and I am not the type of person to buy and sell so I take my time. I am also about to buy a new house (at that point, I will be looking for the bigger and better tv I can afford).
At the moment, I am looking at a Beovision 10-40 and 8-40. I like them both and they both meet my needs, we are definitely on the casual side of TV viewing, we live in the UK and do not watch any live TV and live solely by stream with or screen sharing to AppleTV. I bought a Beovision 8-32 on eBay that was dud and since have decided to go somewhere with warranty and a little more life, I have decided it must be 1080p, HDMI. dolby and masterlink to meet my needs so I do not have to worry about upgrading until I can afford to.
Whichever will be be hooked up to a beosystem 7000 with beolab 6000s at front and I am hoping to get permission to unpack the Beolab 4000s for the rear in a few months.
As I can tell both the 10 and 80-40 share a lot of the same internal parts. The 10 seems to have LED backlighting and a slightly better engine/200hz (which seems to be slightly better than the 8 but not worlds a part). However, having heard a 10-40 and a 8-32 (not the 40), I think the 8-40 will sound better.
My girlfriend is not a fan of the 10 but liked/was okay the 8-32 for the small amount of time we spent with it. She says the 10 seems more like furniture than a TV, she is exceptionally pragmatic and logical, and is right.
I like the 8 in terms of design and sound but not materials. I was wonder if any of you guys would like to offer your opinions on there 10-40/8-40 comparison on particularly picture?
Also, I seem to see a few mentions of a MK2, did they ever get released?
I am sure I will be happy with either TV for a long time. The 8 is also cheaper.
Thanks
The 10-40 will have a more advanced picture, but the 8-40 was the best of the 8's. The 10 sounds great but the 8 is one of the nicest TVs I've heard. It still carries over that warm bassy sound the original Avant had in spades.
Price wise £7-900 for the 8 and £1,600-2000 for the 10. More if you get it from a reseller, but that could save you a lot in the long run(dud 8-32!)
Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.
I have a 10-40 in my bedroom and an 8-32 (although not an 8-40) in my business office. The 10-40 is a great tv. Beautiful picture and plenty of HDMI inputs. With the motorized stand, the 10-40 can move to the optimal viewing position yet move more out of the way when not in use. Also, the choices of colored frets make it very easy to change the look to meet your room or mood. My only complaint about the 10-40 is that the IR sensor is at the bottom rather than the top. When used in the bedroom, I find that I need to rather lift the remote high to angle it to not be obstructed by the foot of the bed. It's a shame that B&O did not include a connection for an external IR sensor like they did with the original Avant.
Like you, I'm using a pair of Beolab 6000s for the front and Beolab 4000s (on stands) for the rear channels. I find that they really benefit from the addition of a BeoLab 11 subwoofer. To me, it improves the sound of the 6000s to sound more like 8000s. Yes, I have surround sound in the bedroom. That's what happens when you catch the B&O bug!
P.S. If your girlfriend thinks the BeoVision 10-40 looks too much like furniture, you should consider a black or dark grey fret. It's amazing what the change of color can do. While the red, white, blue, and orange frets really make the tv stand out (which I actually like), the dark grey fret gives the tv a very elegant look with just slight contrast. The black makes it stand out even less.
The Beovision 10 is actually all black, frame and fret. I think it is more the size she is referring to.
I do not think you would need a bola 11 with the BV8.
Thanks for sharing though. I do love the 10 a lot!!!
Hi TheMajor :) :) :) The BV1o looks awesome mounted onto the wall - have you seen one wall m,mounted? It's based on Marc Rothko art so wall mounting does make sense if your Lady finds it a little too much like furniture - i'm really surprised at that comment though as I find it pure art. Certainly as Beojeff suggests, its look really comes alive with the red or orange grill on it. Maybe show your Lady some Marc Rothko art on Google and she'll see the art. All of his work is untitled and is incredible. :)

Here's a great idea: load some Marc Rothko images unto an Apple TV and use them as the screen saver of the BeoVision 10. I've done that with various art that I like. It turns the TV into a gradually-changing work of art when on but not in use. I'll be trying that with some Rothko art tonight. Thanks for pointing out the artist, Paul!
I've also used art by artists Marco Zehrung and Jason Zickler as screen savers on the Apple TV. They make the BeoVision 10 really look like a work of art.
The BV10 and the 8-40 are basicly the same tv.
Of course they have different design approaches and the 10 has the glass screen and more placement options.
Both sound good, especially when you have external speakers connected.
Go for what you and your lady likes - It can't be wrong.
I am happy with my 8-40 - as I would be with a 10.
Be sure to get one with 3 HDMI-inputs.
MM
There is a tv - and there is a BV
HA! BeoJeff that is such a great idea!!! I have a few Marc Rothko pieces but sadly no BV10 :) If you've ever seen the Anthony Hopkins film 'Meet Joe Black' he is constantly stood near to Marc's art in the film :) I love the music in that film but in all honesty, I fell in love with the film because of the young actress in it :) :) :) :) :)
Or just use the Radio Paradise AppleTV4-app - with or without music...
...and you will get some fantastic pictures as slideshow.
I have both a BV 10 and 8 40"
The 8 does have better fuller sound if used without external speakers. With external speakers this is less noticeable although the 8s center channel is stronger/clearer
My BV10 is wall mounted in a room with a lot of original art and it often stops people in their tracks. The BV8 doesn't get many comments it's sort of blends in.
There isn't much in the picture quality
They are both really wonderful TVs which you will be very happy with and I would never swap them for a 'normal' TV, they are part of masterlinked a home with B&O in every room.
Let us know what you end up choosing and why
When it seems that I'm leaning towards the 8 but when I got home. There was a discussion about the screen size again and how she'd prefer a 32". I've tried explain but I'm pushing the 40". Let's see what happens tonight. I'm not a fan of sudden 180s like this and I'm tempted to just go buy it. However, that would upset her and that's not what a want.
Well, yesterday my dealer called to tell me a Beovision 10-32 was coming in. I had a look yesterday and paid for it today.
So I went for the 10-32 purely for the size but I was impressed by the screen and I hope that the beolab 6000/4000 will fill out the bass.
Happy days but cable hiding mission ahead this weekend!!!!
What s superb choice! Probably can't get any better than that! Perfect size and design. Well done!
Yes, I am very happy with it and was impressed by the set up. I will be trying to masterlink it to my beosystem this weekend so fingers crossed!!!
Very nice - have fun with your 'new' BV :-)
I was very happy until the stand stopped working and it's been with B&O since Tuesday :(
