I know that the "correct" market price is what a seller is prepared to sell for and a buyer is prepared to buy for. With that said, if you had three identical, with respect to condition, Beolab 8000 from the three different generations, what would you say is a reasonable price difference between each of them? That is, if MK1 is 100, what do you think is reasonable for MK2 and MK3?

Hi.

I wasn't aware there was a mk3 BL8000, I assume you mean the BL8002 of which these are rare on the second hand market and will probably still have reasonably high values being the last in the production run.

For the mk1 and 2 I suggest just keeping an eye on eBay where they are plentiful for values, as you say they are only worth what people will pay. Age and condition will be big factors too.

I'd say if Mk1 was 100, Mk2 would be 135 and Mk3 (8002) 200.

That's a broad brush stroke though..  When I'm buying something special I spend a lot of time getting a feel for pricing - making notes on price, age and condition. Is it sold with a warranty, how would you rate the seller (is peace of mind important to you if they go wrong) and so on. Do this from as many sources as possible too, not just ebay.

Then, after a few weeks, you'll have a good grounding on prices!

Thank you both for your answers.

I am talking to a shop specialized in second hand B&O equipment and they have both what they call Beolab 8000 Mk3 and Beolab 8002. They describe Mk3 as "with updated bass and ABL" and "released 2003 with serial number above 16992475". Does that make sense?

They also have a pair of unspecified 8000 as well as a pair of 8002. The price difference between these are

unspecified 8000 100
Mk3                      118
8002                     177

All seem to be in similar (excellent) condition.

Furthermore, they describe Mk2 as an update released 1998 going from a three to a two way design. Is this correct?

The mk3 you describe here with the improved bass I think most people here would assume to be mk2. I am sure the improved bass didn't become official until 2004 with the serial numbers you state. The tech guys here will confirm what, if any, improvements were made in 1998. To me the mk3 can only mean the BL8002. Is the seller in the uk?

So no reason to pay extra for a speaker that's manufactured after 2004 compared to a speaker made post 1998, ceteris paribus?

No, in Scandinavia.
