I just picked up a used BeoVision 7-40. Is it safe for me to store it flat face-down on a soft surface for a few days until I get it wall-mounted?

Can't say - I wouldn't do it.
I would lay it on the back or leave it leaning slightly backwards (against a wall or alike).
