Beolink passive amp just red light!

Hi, I have just received a second hand Beolink passive 1657 amp, trouble is when I turn it on the light goes green for a split second then clicks to red immediately. It does this wether hooked up to Beosound AUX or not. Am I doing something wrong??? amp looks bomb proof and in very good condition, surely not faulty????

Help please!!! coupled with my exciting delivery of new speaker foams that turned out to be the wrong size, I'm not having a good day.......

To use aux with your passive, the passive should at least have sw version 1.5. Even better is sw 1.6.

This should work, otherwise the green light switches to a red dot.

I have ordered a sw 1.6 module at my dealer. He placed it in and it works very well now.

The Beolink Passive Powerlink socket needs to be connected to the Beosound Powerlink socket with a Mk2 Powerlink cable. 

You cannot connect to the AUX socket!

Yep have done that, brand new cable, its the turnatable thats pluged into the AUX

Looks like it is a fairly new model, does it need the IR to work, surely not...????

If you are connecting powerlink to powerlink then forget the IR

Are you sure that you are using a Mk2 or fully connected cable??

The light should switch to green when you ask the Beosound to play a CD etc. If not then the Passive is faulty!

I have just checked with the guy I brought it off, who has another one, and he said the other one does exactly the same thing, surely both not faulty... any ideas????

Errr um just sarted working???? tried it on CD, which hasnt been working for months, green light comes on, and get this, CD player now works as well????? And works when I switch it back to AUX????

I bought one last week from classic-bno and connected it to a Beosound 9000 powerlink socket with a Mk2 cable from SH and it worked perfectly, as I described. If yours doesn't do that ,then it is faulty or it is not a Mk2 powerlink cable.

They have been working like this for years, ever since the passive was called MCL2P or ML/MCL converter. They all work in the same way!

In my setup a have the passive only connected with a masterlinkcable and of course the power.

In my linkroom I use passive speakers with an ir - eye. I have never used a powerlinkcable. For many years this works fine for me.

What I mean with the softwareversion is that aux can only be selected when the sw- version of the passive is 1.5 or higher. Otherwise the green dot is there for a few seconds and then goes back to red. Probably a misunderstanding from me, when you talked only about aux (and not mentioned the aux-cable). Sorry for the confusion.

Try to connect the passive only with a masterlinkcable and an eye. This should work.

Ther are two options to make the system work.

1. Masterlink Cable and IR eye  or

2. Mk2 Powerlink cable.

Still working OK this morning, CD player also fine,  me thinks the fault is in the Beosound 3000 NOT the passive amp, once again thanks everyone for their help
