I guess it is now safe to expect LG OLED panels in some future Beovisions....

And share price up 9% at the start of the day.

In this article (which is in Danish) they predict that a OLED TV from B&O will be available in 2017

That is also stated in the original Press Release:

"The first OLED TV produced by LG for Bang & Olufsen as a result of the partnership is expected to be launched in 2017. Further, the partnership involves collaboration in other areas such as license and product bundle activities."

Just wondering - LG is using WebOS as the SmartTV platform.

Untill now we heard, that the coming new BV's would use Android.

They talk of the B&O/LG BV's as tv's for 2017.

Will the BV's expected for this year (see what Roger writes in another post!) be 'something else'???

If yes, what?

This looks like a good deal, picture quality coming from Lucky Goldstar, boxed in a case from B&O with their sound quality.

Could be a hit.

Absolutely terrific news for B&O. This new set WILL be the original Avant and BV5 successor! Let's hope they contract a really breathtaking designer and totally go for it design wise! It'll probably be the price of a powerboat but I guess someone who watches a lot of TV will want it!

A strange announcement in a way.  They are about to release two new TVs, which will be superceded just next year with the best technology!

A strange announcement in a way.

Let's face it, how many day-to-day regular B&O store customers will ever see or read that kind of announcement or anything on this board? Besides, an OLED B&O isn't going to come close to a current BV11 price point. If you were going to buy a BV11 now, if you wait for the OLED, it won't be price comparative.

Why?

I am sure these BV's will be in different ranges (also pricewise).

I am happy, if we will see a broader tv-portfolio from B&O.

Not everyone will be able to afford a 2017 OLED-BV, I guess.

I truly agree with Chris as the very minute I read it, I thought of the two new models and the 'old' Samsung LCD screens.

The OLED is every B&O fans dream I guess. I was talking to  guy at the gym the other week who has owned a family TV business in the area for 30+ years and I asked him if Samsung made the best performing TVs and his reply was "Oh gosh no, it's LG by miles". That was in terms of picture performance and reliability!

I don't see why they should cost much more.  You can get an LG OLED HD set for the same price as a standard LCD HD TV.

Curry's sell them for about  £1,300.

Yes, but you're mistaking the average B&O customer. They mostly don't read these things or know what OLED is. They aren't savvy at all (or care, mostly).

Yes, but the decent 55" OLED is around £4000 Chris, so scale this up to B&O level. I still think they'll market it as their 'premium' range. They aren't going to release new TVs in 2016 and then trump them at the same price, with OLED, 12 months later.

I guess leave the design to B&O Simeon :)

I think the Audi portfolio is very except (except the Q). I had the A3 S Line 1.4T FSI Sedan in Misano red and it was fantastic design wise in every respect. Plus 52-55mpg. I want electric though if I decide to buy a car again. the E-tron is very nice :) I can't accept fossil fuel use now :)

If anything Chris & Moxxey the OLED one will replace the 75/85 Avants. Cost wise will be £4000 + VAT for production of each TV will equal £15,000 retail - Avant 75/85 prices.

Seriously? Having had one for just over two years, my opinion is that is the nicest looking out of all of the Audi's. The rear lights are super and the design has worked incredible on the convertible too. For me, the whole design has been perfect - young, sporty, athletic and elegant all at the same time. I couldn't fault it in anyway!

I'm very excited by this, B&O really needed to get OLED panels given what they achieved with Beolab90 and the older tvs. B&O needs a true halo TV to compete with OLED.  I have a 2015 top spec Samsung S-UHD,  it doesn't even come close to my LG OLED side by side. The dynamic range and colour of the OLED just knocks LED off.

I think this partnership makes great sense for both makers. At the large end of the TV size/market B&O can still be competitive even with the cost of OLED - you get surround decoder great speakers, integration. OLED prices are dropping quickly so today's prices are not good indicator of medium term prices. Who knows maybe B&O will add their flair to the LG webOS and audio - lots of opportunities for improvement. It doesn't make sense for B&O to attempt to make or design every critical parts of the TV - even Mercedes, BMW, Aston Martin don't.

Well it looks like I could be getting a B&O tv finally :) one with OLED!!

I would never buy another Bang & Olufsen TV.

In the approximately two years I had it,the BV 7-55 Mark 2 was the most unreliable TV, both in terms of hardware and software, I have ever owned.

Whereas the LG OLED I have had since October 2014 has been entirely trouble free.

I still don't know who in their right mind would ever buy a B&O TV. It is the most overpriced product I have ever seen.

I guess you never tried it. I will say that the BV7 was a let down. But the new AVANT is a killer product simply a pleasure to use, and the beoremote one is great.

Beovision Harmony 77" 2nd Gen, Beolab 5, Beolab 17, Beosound 1, Beoplay M3, Beoplay Portal, Beoplay Earset, Beoliving Intelligence

I sure have, several times.

The motorized stand is the best part about it.

The remote is nice but very limited unless you have all B&O equipment.

For the price B&O charges for these sets there is NO EXCUSE for them not to be OLED, 4K and 25% larger.

Even paying for a 4K is stupid considering they are just LCD LG panels in a nicer body with some software tricks.

They are absolutely not worth the money and will be antiquated in just a few years, like all TV's.

The reason I feel the need to comment your earlier statement is that you dont seem able to understand others purchase.

I dont myself have a B&O television, as I change tv at least ones a year, and having a LG Oled on the way. So for me a B&O television does not make much sense as I am a tech nerd. Though I have Beolab 20 and Beolab 17 as they are not obsolete tomorrow and are just wonderful. So I understand where you are coming from.

But I dont understand that you are not able to see others need.

My parents have the AVANT and man it is just so much better than any tv I ever had.

The picture is good but nothing special it is all the other things.

It start up quick

The sound is amazing(they dont have room for extra speaker)

The magic with the two axle stand and the speaker moving is a pleasure everytime.

Recording is simple and much much better then any competitor.

The remote is not limit at all, much quicker to navigate then any other remote.

One example when need to see recorded tv, you press tv twice and ok on the remote. That is just great. when the same should be done on my Panasonic 4K it takes much much longer time.

If I did not change my tv as much as I do I would not hesitate buying B&O the new generation. I would never buy one from the BEOSYSTEM 3 time.

And so we sit at the front row to see the ending to a once well ahead of industry trends so proud Danish firm.

Surviving many turbulent years since the beginning in the year 1925, but now struggling to survive in an era where technology develops at lightning speeds and the world has become not bigger than the flat of your hand.

Slowly this firm puts down his crown: All On Sale...

And we continue to look at it and tell ourselves: Do not panic everything will be fine, always…

I totally agree, partnering with an electronic giant doesn't mean both gets diluted to the lowest common denominator. Its a matter of execution and quality control. As Chris said look at Leica, there's also Carl Zeiss, Aston Martin with Mercedes etc. After all B&O never built their own LCD panels and people never commented on their sources -B&O will never have billions to build a panel factory. If each stick to their core competencies and maintain quality I think they'd do well.  LG spent billions on their OLED factories and research.

B&O TVs are more about their total package -auto colour correction, video ability, great speakers, surround sound, all in one remote and ease of use. I'm getting fed up of wasting my time tinkering around for the best quality and ease of use with my many components.  I ditch my chance for the Avant 85 because it couldn't handle poorer SD material and lack of HDR. If they add Dolby Atmos I'm saying up for a 75/85 now!! Though I have no idea hw to sell it to the CEO of the house lol

It's brilliant news - it'll have now have THE BEST picture with THE BEST sound from a television. Many years ago, when I had a BV6, it was a beautifully made, classy little thing with an superb sound. It filled my Liverpool apartment at the time - in fact, we used it more as a sound system :)

Panasonic is now using LG OLED for its OLED TV range and they've been voted the absolute best of the best of picture performance. Only good things will come from this LG arrangement with B&O.

@Simonbeo - that's incredible. True the sedan was aimed at the Chinese & USA markets but it's doing OK in the UK. I fell in love with the design immediately! The whole A3 range is beautiful with the Sportback making a very nice family car.

I too think its "good" news (and Tue's stats in the news article are telling: 30,000 B&O BVs a year versus LG's scale of 40,000,000 TVs a year) in an MBA sense and I truly hope that the plan is executed in such a way that the results are Danish Design to the core coupled with B&O's visions of movement, multi-room, and home automation (ok, I have my doubts on the last one).

On the other hand I am now disappointed and conflicted (I probably need Moxxey to set me straight again) ...

As you may know from another thread I have acquired some BL20s ... and as the wife was leaving this morning (no, not LEAVING, just going out) she asked "so what's the next purchase ?" (clever woman).

I said "ask me at the end of April" ....

Now I find it's April 2017 Sad

So seeing as I was planning to buy one of the BVs scheduled for announcement in April (2016) should I:

a) keep waiting another 12 months ?

b) buy the entry level V1 replacement so I can get true multi-room going ?

c) buy the BV11 replacement (if there is one) at more cost but for the same reason ?

d) pray April is a Mark II upgrade to the Avant and buy that as the last of the great B&O BVs for the same reason ?

e) buy a 2015/16 LG OLED (I had already been looking anyway) and do some fiddling with wires etc etc and then return to the fold in 2017 and throw / donate the LG away ?

I guess my decision matrix will be a little clearer in 40 days from now.

The LG partership is horrible.

It's not a LG screen on a B&O tv (like samsung), it's a B&O tv made by LG.

I was waiting for a new tv (Avant MkII ?) 55" instead of my 46" BV11 (made in Denmark) and I don't know if I will wait anymore. It's a keeper.

Whent to my dealer this week and of course no news about a new tv and Avant 55 is approx. 10.900 € on stand. 10.900 € and it's two years old already !

On the "positive" note, I doubt the new tv's will come from korea, even actual samsung are made in CZ like the Avant (Philips in Poland).
