in the current form its of course cheap and serves it purpose fully but what if we take this and

make this

...but the bad news ! now it would coust 399 euros because of the much aluminum :D

center not a button but aluminum touch area to mute.
radial LED network indicator (green,yellow,red)
the alu-volume wheel

and some orbitals >> standby touch point right top, remote eye left bottom, compact brand logo

Much better!

How could BANG&OLUFSEN allow such a horrible piece of design to be manufactured?

Some people knock Apple, but they make beautifully designed, nicely made with great interaction products with reliable software that works. There is no way that Apple would churn out such an ugly, cheap looking thing!

It's as though BANG&OLUFSEN make a fool of their customers at times!

I really can not understand what they where thinking when they went with this design. First you buy really expensive, beautiful speakers from Bang & Olufsen. Just to connect them to this plastic toy that looks like either an old wireless phone base or a food cartoon.

Makes me doubt the spirit of B&O that just seems to disappear more or less.

Hi all, came home and the new rendering was just finished so still hot :-)

its also worth to continue with the B&O's original idea with the "virtual" sensor wheel with an another design approach , little bit less shinny :) me gusta doubled...

but instead of plastic / cloth elements several aluminum sensor elements in a polar array

Playmaker Evan Edition :), with (semi) transparent LCD , for track, source (future amp-control) reads out the info data from the audio stream . Everyone who remember the BeoLink5000 with its transparent display knows how it works.

the more time you spend on this ,the more you realize the true wasted potential of the Playmaker. So its better to stop here ..its not my business, Im just beoworld tomaz :) have fun with the original playmaker ,look at the bright side - its unique to have a food box in your bedroom , office, living room ---

I would change it to look like a beogram platter, or to be really clever........a beogram platter clock!  Retro and classic, hang it on a wall and the playmaker would then be hidden in plain sight.

I mentioned in another thread that the current design looks remarkably like a bathroom fan.

H3ll yea! Make that screen motorized and you've got a deal!!! Laughing

On a serious note, I was picturing a display that is two lines and runs across the bottom width of the front panel. Back to the drawing board! Stick out tongue

Guys the weather in germany is so bad , so staying at home and continuing on this was an option :)cause I have so much fun with this..
The new design incorporates the desire of tgt365 with the beogram style platter, and Evans 2 row display ...actually its now a 2+1 rows display :D

I will send this to Tim Cook @ Apple so he can bring out  a special serie of Airport Express for bitterly disappointed B&O fans... Like iPlayBetter ...

LOL, I notice you changed the logo on the lower right hand side !

But to truly satisfy Evan you better make it a scrolling title line

And others will prefer artwork

Whereas Soren and Rich will want the artwork to be the labels that used to be stuck in the centre of platters

Just goes to show how hard it is to satisfy Beoworlders

And the UK hasn't had a summer at all. Well, we did, in March. Was 26c in March - when it used to snow when I was a kid - and 15c in July!

Tomaz, your designs are great. I'd rather pay a little more and buy something with a little more style, than the current Playmaker design.

End.

Now this I would buy in a heartbeat and happily pay double of what they are charging for the plastic Playmaker!

Did B&O miss the significance of the Playmaker as a product, rush it out to the market, or is the plastic "utility style" their new design line? The only thing the Playmaker remotely resonates with (design-wise) is the white V1. Yet, judging by the logo, it does not belong to the Play-range. And it sure as heck does not fit in the Bang & Olufsen range -- the Playmaker is meant to be kept visible, as opposed to Beolink Wireless, for example, where you hide the box.

Does anyone know if there's a black version coming out of the Playmaker? That alone would be an improvement over the plastic creamy white!

haha , no actually quite the opposite , it was quite refreshing to design with the input of Beoworlders :D and without them it wouldn't have ended up like that...

All I would say about the playmaker is that unfortunately, if it were to be made of anything but plastic, it would hinder wi-fi capabilities.  It should be in aluminium of course, but it wouldn't work.

Thanks, for mentioning this and going more in deep with this idea.
The only aluminum part is the platter, the casing is pure white plastic , the antenna is placed at top
left where the blank area is and second antenna goes around the whole frame for best receiving of streams.

I quite like this design.... also, I do love the colours.
The display shows song title and artist... enough info for a stand alone little player like this.
If I needed more info and album art etc.. I would find this easily on the iPad.

Great job! This design would be worth the B&O asking price! I sure would buy one or two !
Would replace all the airport express units in my place. As bonus B&O would sell me a few new sets of speakers as well.

Only thing bothering me on this design is the black dot on the left bottom corner which is probably the ir receiver?

The oblique-angled triangle design allows perfect usability while wall mounted.
Iphone 5 (128GB) as the streaming source with the iPlayBetter in white design :))

Is it true, that the playmaker can't be wallmounted ?           Epic ....

Hi Tomaz, nice designs you have created. I can't understand why B&O choosen the design that they have. Especially since I have seen the design department with other fellow Beoworlders back in May. I do not see any of the passion and creative that we saw there. We had been told that the B&O play team is based in Copenhagen, but I believe they should re-locate to Struer.

Sad sad sad.

Hard to know which of the two teams designed this -- it seems to be BeoPlay yet is on the BANG&OLUFSEN site and initially was not on the BeoPlay site (I think B&O is a little confused !!)

In my view it is design for the market demographic that is into DLNA and a large variety of formats and who use iDevices and/or Adevices (A=Android).

It is not yet ready design wise to be a replacement of the MasterLink or the BeoLink Wireless 1.

Now if we could relocate Tomaz to Struer .... or Copenhagen .....
