Now if we could relocate Tomaz to Struer .... or Copenhagen .....

Happy Happy Happy us Big Smile

I agree fully !!!  Love the Tomaz design. If anything, it would make it worth the price asked for the product.

Can't believe B&O allowed the current playmaker design to be put into production. My wife says it's looks like a rushed design made at apple at the time the first gen iPod was being developed.  This is 2012 not 2002!

I can only guess they're desperate to get anything out as quick as they can. Sadly this monstrosity does nothing but tarnish the brand.

Time to revive this thread.

Flappo was not right - when was he ever?

They took their time.

I guess all that will be new about the 'new' Playmaker will be a IWS-module.

And why should they change the looks of it?

I think it ok - is just meant to be tugged away - not to play the 'starring role'.

It is more the role of an 'organizer'.

What you actually see is the tablet/iPad, you use for feeding it.

You could always stick a picture of your grlfriend (or your wife) on it, if you think it is too dull.

I did hear a rumour that a new one is coming - and that it would be different Smile

You shouldn't really hide away any wifi device, particularly one you're trying to use to stream high quality audio. Plus the PM is made from an off-white plastic, which gets grubby, easily. Mine sits between my BL3s and it's clearly on display.

I'm not saying it needs a radical overhaul, but it could do with some minor visual tweaks. Mind you, the new Apple Airport Express isn't much better!

100% moxxey !

People seem to forget radio devices "like " to see each other.

Really poor approach, 99.9% would probably get this redesigned playmaker ,while 0.1% Millemillisen would not. bno toys were never meant to be hided away.

If the PM is wired, there is no reason to "see" the PM. There is only a wifi connection between the tablet and router.

And how about the router? Isn't that a wifi-device, that sits almost in every setup NOT in the listening room?

@ Gatex

You missed the point. How about a Beomaster5 or Beosystem3? Wink

Beomaster V is a box to hide away . PM has indicator LED , Mute "button" , volume change "touchwheel"  on/off button. And the BS3 is beautifully designed and resembles Bno quality. PM is not even white , it looks like 5 old router from a smokers room , creammyyy

Well, I could easily give you several examples of B&O-stuff that 'is meant to' be more or less hidden away.

Starting with the BeoMaster 5, then the Socket Unit of the BC2 or the BSys3 or 4, the BeoLink Converters...

I am not saying that you must hide it - just saying that this device is meant to be/to act in the background as an 'organizer'.

And some even use it for controlling the volume - I am not.

Bad WiFi is no issue when tugged half-away behind some books or (like mine) a big green plant.

And it has an ethernet connection as well - as you might know.

What I meant, is that the Playmaker is well as it is - and that it might get an IWS module in a 'new' version.

If the guys in Struer make something new - that is meant to be seen and touched Whistle - it will surely be a different device, imo.

Actually I like the look of it - but it is not going to be the 'Show-off Master' in my livingroom anyway.

And I do realize that the guys in Struer can't please everybody, so we will just have to live with our different approaches to this device.

If I (for my personal needs) should change the Playmaker, I would make it a small black box with the same connections - suited to be hidden in a cupboard or behind an AudioMaster Unsure

Keyword there is *if*. Besides, I found that the PM doesn't like to be wired. Performs better with a fixed static IP, via wifi.

I find that hard to believe. Every device in my house, except my iThings are wired and have a static IP-adress. It can’t get any more stable than your wifi connected PM.

Actually, the Playmaker is universally ugly and I do not understand how a brand known for design can launch this product. Especially, it has a button on / off and volume. It has not been designed to be hidden. Torsten Valeur design Stick out tongue

Yeah, we know how you feel!! Why can't you just accept the fact it can be hidden by user's choice?

I wouldn't pay douple up for a device with a small display showing the artist/track/volume.

For me the functionality of the Playmaker is the centerpiece.

If it should display something, it must be more than that - and some navigation should be possible too.

Let the Playmaker be as it is and present a new device with a bigger display - with the PM-functionality built in!

Could be a job for Tomaz to make a study of that.

Well, the same you can say for a built-in IWS-module if you can’t or don’t want to use it.

100% agree!

What I like to see is a PM becoming a more mature streaming audio player. One that doesn’t need a 3rd party DLNA/UPnP app, but a real B&O app with a user interface to browse your music that is in your network on your PC, MAC or NAS. Apps like iPeng to control Squeezeboxes, the Sonos app, these apps are such a joy to work with. Also, direct access to internetradio stations and music services without using the Airplay protocol would be nice.

That is exactly my point, when I write that we don't need a new Playmaker - it is okay as it is.

We need a new audio-device 🔨

Sorry ,sometimes I have my difficulties to follow you fellow. If you need the points you have mentioned, you need to get a Beosound 5(encore) and NOT a Playmaker dude. I want that the PM keep things real simple. volume up/down/mute/on-off thats fine for me. Tomas new design with the turntable like platter is stellar  -------- Here on this forum was a posting about a new Playmaker- planned to release for this year together with other information. but I cant find them -can anyone help me to find the thread ?

You probably mean this thread:

http://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/t/6357.aspx?PageIndex=1

Beware, it has 22 pages - somewhere something about a 'new Playmaker' was written, I think.

I seem to be swimming upstream here but I'm completely fine with how my PM looks. It's expensive enough without upping the price for cosmetics. It's pretty innocuous looking, mand I suspect many people hide theirs. It works well, provides a useful function, and if you want something much sexier I think what you really want is a new BS5 replacement.

Jeff

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus. Sad
