Hello from Japan.

I bought the Beosound 8 in April and have just set it up in my new home (was in the process of moving until now).

1) First, the remote does nothing. Should it light up like the one on the deck itself? It is dead. Could it be the battery? No explanation on that.

2) Second, the remote on the deck itself.  Play, green. Pause, yellow-orange.  The manual mentions press and hold (how long????) for standby. It says it turns red and goes into standby. I saw this once. Not again.

3) Play and hold for more than 5 seconds (more than standby?). The manual says it goes into deep sleep? This never happens, or does it. The light goes off completely? If so, I think I see this (not at home now).

I think I just want on, pause and off.  I do not understand the above. I do not use the Ipad. I just use a wire to my airport express or DVD. (audio siwtcher). Am I misunderstanding? Doing something wrong?

(When I first plugged in, no power at all. I pulled out and reversed the chord and now ok.  Not sure if it was seated wrong or what.)

Any advice ? Thanks!

paul

Hi Paul

1) No, it definitely doesn't light up (the remote). Sounds like the battery could be flat if it's not working at all.

2) You only need to hold for about 3 seconds for it to go in to standby. The light goes orange, not red. Green when on, orange in standby. Never goes red. There is no red led.

3) No idea. Doesn't seem to make a difference here. I have green = on, orange = standby. If I wanted it off completely, I'd switch it off at the mains.

Hi paul

The remote doesn't light up. The display on the BS8 works for me more when an iPad is connected. If I hold it in for deep sleep is like holding in the power button of my iPad and puts it all to sleep.

If you want me to make a video of me using mine please send me a pm and I will make one on the weekend. I also have an airport xpress and can try that too

Cheers

Moxxey and Michael

Thank you for your responses. So, the remote is not supposed to light up, Moxeey? Does it make the corresponding light on the main unit light up, I wonder? I will have to figure out how to change the battery....

Moxeey, you said I hold it for 3 seconds to go into standby (orange).   Ok. I think that is what I have too. Green and orange.I think the booklet has misleading terminology:

On page 5 of the manual, at the bottom, it says "it is orange when playback is paused or muted" (It does not explain how to mute, but ok. And it does not specifically say pause/mute is the same as standby, so it is confusing. On page 6 it simply says "Press and hold for standby."  So these are one and the same? Ok.

But the sentence on page 5 continues: "When the Beosound is switched to standby the light flashed red once." Does this mean my big has an error?   It is very misleading. What makes it even more confusing is I THOUGHT I saw a red light once. But now only green to play and orange to pause

Michael, you wrote that  "the display on the BS8 works...when an iPad is connected.".

Ah, maybe i have to try that.  I could do that to see.

I do notice that the manual on page 6 says deep sleep is only available by close-up operation (not the remote?).

Hmmm.

Ok...I will try to send you a PM.   Then I could compare.  Thank you both for the help!

Two important points:

1) I just found out that the AAAA battery may not even be sold in Japan. This is the one in the Remote. I have only seen them as small as AAA. Will check a bigger store.

2) If my AirPlay source goes off, and I have nothing else on, the buttons on the unit do not turn it on. Only when I turn Airplay back on, or I connect the Ipad directly, do the buttons work.  Not sure if this is a feature or a problem. The manual does not say,  I have to go and hook up the CD player to check. If the CD player is off, can i expect that the buttons do not work to turn the Besound 8 on and off? In other words, no source, no on and off?

Maybe that is why it would do nothing initially when I first plugged it in the wall power.

Thanks!

3) Looking forward to your test video, Michael. I will be out of town until Tuesday, so will respond at that time.

By the way, do your instruction books not mention a red light? I am wondering if I have a misprint.

Thanks!

paul
