I would like to know the format for the serial number of the two items.
Would like to buy one but the seller could not provide the Beosound serial number only provided the Beomaster 5 serial : 218XXXXX.

8 digits is the format for B&O serial numbers. In the "customer service menu" the serial numbers for both items are dispayed.
As a leading buyer and seller of these products, my advice is this: don't touch it unless the main board on the 500GB has been replaced, they are extremely flakey - it appears to me that this product is out of warranty unless there are some shenanigans going on with warranty registration. I only buy and resell the 500GB Beomaster 5 once this main board has been replaced, or if it has been replaced. There problems are not evident on the 1TB version.
