I am interested in buying a bv 10. And I am thinking connect the bv 10 with either beolab 9s or 3s for front, beolab 6000 for rear.I am not sure would beolab 9s be too powerful for bv 10 when watch movies in a 5.1 set up?

Also, My living area is about 40m2, would a pair of beolab 3s together with a beolab 11 be enough for music? And has anyone tried speaker 4 mode to listening music? Would beolab 3s work well with beolab 6000 in speaker 4 mode while listen to music?

Regards

I'm going for 9's to start, with then hopefully 5's at the front moving the 9's to the rear although the 6000's would be great as well. I have a black 10 so the colours would be the same, but if yours is silver think about the 12's instead!

Hi Chris,

Do you have the bv10 together with a pair of 9s? Will bv10's speaker cope well with bl9 in a 5.1 set up? I have heart the 9s would be too powerful and might overkill bv 10's speaker. Is this true?

I don't know but it's on m wish list. Have you considered the 12's?

I don't like the look of 12s, particularly hate the plastic feeling led light. This is my personal taste. But I have heart the 12s, they are quite good.

I have a BV10 with BL9s front and BL3s rear with BL2 in my bedroom. The answer is no the BL9s are not too powerful for the setup. In the menu of the BV10 you simply setup the distancing of each speaker to the listener and then set the levelling of each speaker to the BV10 so the BL9s don't overpower the dialogue from the BV10 centre speaker. That way when you use the system at a low volume or high volume the balance in speaker channels is always there. I find it works best with loudness setting ON. Not a big fan of the BL11, personally don't think it would fill that size room.

welcome Jez to Beoworld - great first post, good advice.

Cheers,

Living room: BV10 46" motor stand, BL5s front/back, all black with Apple TV.

Bed room: BV10 40" motor stand, BL9s front, BL3s back, BL2, all white with Apple TV

Study: MacBook Pro 17" with BL3s black.

It's very overkill in my apartment but the neighbors sure give me the death looks! Don't really watch TV much other than Sports and News but I love movies and I think the BL9 is the most under rated speaker, it's phenomenal!

Interesting. I'm going off my BV12 idea, thinking it might be wiser to add extra speakers to the BV10 for now and sitting back and seeing what B&O release in the future.

You wouldn't need 9s if you have the BL11. It's easier and cheaper to go for 3s, with the BL11. That's my plan. Add BL3s to my BV10/BL11 combo.

Hi moxxey, Do you mean bl3 + bl11 have nearly the same sound result as a air of bl9s? I have go to my local dealer to have a try. Do you think a pair of bl3 + bl11 would be enough for my room size (about 40m2)?

Thanks

Well, having owned BL5s (overkill for most rooms), BL9s (great for movies), BL3s+BL2 and now BL3s+BL11, if you already have a BL11, BL3/BL11 combo will be relatively close to the BL9s. Not quite as powerful, but still a great combo, particularly if you live in an apartment.

Having listened to various combos at my dealer, I wasn't too convinced that the BV10 makes for a good centre speaker. Sounds flat to me. Nothing like the BV7's BL7.4 as a centre. That really does compliment the BL3s/BL9s.

Looking at the above images, I'm not entirely sure why you'd need a BL2 with the BL9s!

Not for music no, BL9s are better without it but for movies yes it is better. I tried BL11 and it doesn't cut it for me, in any sized room. 40m squared would be pushing a BL11 in my opinion.

It's best to try the different combo's at your dealer and see what you like, maybe they can demo one for you in your house

No, I mean you don't really need the BL2 with the BL9s.  The difference is fairly negligible - the BL9s go down to a fairly low frequency and the BL2 wouldn't improve that massively.

I have, see my post above. I've had pretty much all combos possible! BL9s, BL5s, BL2, BL11, BL6000s, BL7.2, BL7.4 etc.

Morning Moxxey - overslept and missed the Khan/Garcia fight and glanced at this, quite an interesting thread.

On paper and to my ear, BL11 and BL3 would not be comparable to BL9 surely, the bass extension is not there.  Arguably BL3/BL2 combo (which I favour) but I appear to be with Jez on this one.

Depends on how much bass you want, Ian? And how much space you want your TV/speaker combo to take up in your front room. People on here tell me that having a large TV can be a little crass/working class, but I believe that having a medium sized TV, with huge speakers by the side, looks more crass. When I had my BV7 and BL9 combo (as you'll remember), it took up a huge amount of space in the room. Didn't look elegant. At least the BL3s are more subtle.

What I was trying to say was, if you already have a BL11 (which Chris does, above), you might find it better/easier to add BL3s, rather than BL9s. Ok, it's not quite the same level, but it's not a huge departure.
