I bought a BS5 Encore with a BEO6 remote a couple of months ago - the sound quality is obviously fantastic but in terms of functionality and user friendliness it is absolutely crab. Even the new update for BEO6 is useless compared to the functionaly u get from an Ipod or other smartphones.

I am considering to sell the BS5 Encore and the BEO6 and buy a Playmaker instead which can be controlled by an Ipod. As far as I can tell from the Playmaker specs it does have a decent DAC - anyone with any first hand experience with the Playmaker ?

The playmaker will be connected to BEOLAB 3.

thanks, Jesper

Hi Jesper,

You mention a new update for the Beo6 -- what does this update bring? Have B&O finally enabled Cover Art on the Beo6 screen together with BS5 Encore?

By the way, I am considering the exact same change to my configuration: BeoLab 3 + Playmaker, and letting my Encore go, even though it is a beautiful piece of equipment!

B&O product history since 1991: Ridiculously long to list in a signature.

I have a BS5 with Beo4 only and STILL waiting for good apple intergration.

I'v never heard about playmaker, and could not google it. What is that and which company made it so I can find info about it!

Hi guys,

I own a BeoSound 5 with BeoMaster 5 since 3 years now and i'm very satisfy.

I think the PlayMaker has another "philisophy" of use.

It's more a product for someone who has all his music on iTunes or a NAS and want to control it with an iOS or Android product.

If you have it, the PlayMAker is for you.

Moreover, if you're not really into the search for a design product, but want lots of control, the combo PlayMaker + BeoLab 3 is a must.

I think i'm a little "old school" with music. I want the old vinyl "ceremonial" with the convenience of digital age !

And that's what the BS5 give me. I love stand up from my chair and turn the perfect aluminium wheel to find a cover or an artist and let MOTS do the rest. I use my Beo4 sometimes for the volume.

I even don't own a Beo6.

Steph,

Great comments.  I too have a Beosound 5 and Beomaster 5 for about 3 years.  I complained about it a few times when it was first introduced but now am completely satisfied.  I also use the Apple iCloud and the Amazon cloud for portability because I can have my entire music library available anywhere.

I think you have come up with a new idea with the "vinyl ceremonial".

Thanks Linder.

I think young generation are all into "music portability".

They don't own a classic hi-fi stereo system. CDs are a things from the past for them and all the music is downloaded on a laptop and transfered on iPhone with very bad quality. Sad

I really think that for the major music firms, the world of hi-fi products is dead. The niche market of audiophile systems is still there, but for a few number of people.

It's only download, streaming... The music is part of  the computer world.

So, for me, who likes beautiful products and ease of use, a product like the BeoSound 5 is great.

No more vinyls or CD, but a product which facilitates on-hand operation for optimal ease-of-use and bring a wonderful tactile experience.

B&O succeded to create a product for the BeoGrams, BeoSound 3000 or 9000 owners : a digital system with clever combination of graphics and mechanics. Embarrassed

Hello,

I have a beomaster and beosound 5 and I can tell you that I buy all my music on Qobuz (lossless 16 Bits 44.1kHz) and it's possible for me to have it on my samsung S3 without any conversion and any restriction.

S3 play lossless WMA without any problem ... just to have a big SDHC card.

So ,with a beomaster 5 it' possible to have "BEST music portability".

@kma

yes there is a new update for the BEO6 allowing 2-way communication with the Encore.

I decided to keep to the Encore and crossing my fingers for better integration with smartphones sometime in the (near) future...

@steph - vinul "CEROMONIAL" :) thanks, great and without accumulating dust...

Hi spuns,

Can you send me a link to the new config tool with 2-ways for the Encore? I only got the CT that allows win-64...

Hackel,

thanks - how do you connect your S3 to the B5 ? I am afraid that if you use the aux it will not be processed through the internal DAC in B5 or ?

Hi Spuns,

I contacted my dealer about this new soft, and he wasn't aware of it... He phoned B&O in Denmark and they confirmed that there is no 2-way software available for the Encore...

So : I think that you have a BS5 and not an Encore!

Hi Mbee,

the reason why I thought that 2-way communication was now possible was that I saw the encore and the beo6 on the web each of them showing the same album art, link:

http://www.bang-olufsen.dk/en/sound/sound-systems/beosound-5-encore

I wrote B&O and they confirmed that 2-way communication was now possible with the Encore. I talked to my dealer here in Copenhagen, who also contacted B&O who said it was not possible...

I have been waiting for a final answer from them as they have been more or less on holiday for the past month - I called them today and as soon as they revert I will let you know.

thanks, Jesper (as confused as you are I guess)

the picture of the Encore and the BEO6 has now been removed from the B&O website after being there for a couple of months - might be that B&O is reading this thread...
