leosgonewild:What I am askin is can you use acat6 or cat7 cable?
I have speakers connected to my essence across the other side of the room (so using cat7 I had installed to go to my cellar) - so yeah is the answer! I had a cat 6 cable from the essence to the wall socket at one point but it created noise in the speakers.

Hi Leo!
I used to have normal LAN-cable Cat7. My Beo dealer said that Cat7 was needed.

I guess this is about (better) shielding!
rob08:I'm pretty sure cat6 will work as long as it is shielded.
Shielded cable & plugs are definitely required as the shielding carries the data ground. Technically even shielded cat 5 would 'work', but...
...cat 7 patch cables tend to be of the S/FTP type, which means that as well as having an overall shield, they also have an individual foil shield covering each of the twisted pairs within the cable. The overall shield provides shielding from interference from outside of the cable, whilst the additional shield around each twisted pair provides shielding against interference from the signals in the other pairs within the cable. If using cat 5 or cat 6 cable without this additional shielding there is the potential for hum to be introduced to the audio signals from the signal & data signals being carried on the other pairs which is why cat 7 is recommended.
