Desperately Needed:   Any B&O audio equipment

You can access my website at this link: http://n-coray.wix.com/a-level

What I need: Anything that has a B&O logo on it! I am urgently looking for any type of speakers that could be used in my project. Preferably able to fit into a BeoLab 6000 body. I would also accept broken B&O equipment as I could salvage some parts.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions you wish to ask me. you can contact me through BEOWORLD or my website.

About this project

I am a Student at Bridgwater College studying Design & Technology A-Level.

For my project this year, I decided to push the boundary's of design and quality in speakers by coming up with a wireless Plug & Play surround sound system consisting of 2 front or rear speakers and a front sound bar. The 2 front or rear speakers are the main projects and the sound bar is an aerial for them to be connected to the audio input. These speakers have been based on the iconic design of a Bang & Olufsen BeoLab 6000! I chose this because it is an iconic design and has great sound and after spending a weeks' work experience in the B&O store in Exeter ( my sincere thanks to Matt Dibley and his team for his constant help and support) I realised that they are one of the most popular speakers that B&O have ever offered, even though they have been discontinued for quite some time.

I am the third generation of B & O lovers in my family, and fully appreciate the quality their products offer. My project is a tribute to David Lewis, who I feel changed the face of HiFi and TV design. The reason why I have created this page is because I would appreciate your help! The first is that I cannot afford the electronic components to construct the speakers or the materials to make it a premium product. If you do donate then you would get a personal thank you from me.

About Me

My name is Nick Coray and I am a 17-year-old student at Bridgwater College. I hope to someday become a product designer for Bang & Olufsen or another high-quality company. I first discovered my love for design when for a Year 9 project we had to research our favourite designers. I chose David Lewis, designing a website about him and creating a wooden replica of the BeoLab 9000 (It has even fooled some B&O specialists and enthusiasts!); this project got me 95% which was the highest recorded mark in my school. The web link is http://davidlewistsproject.webs.com.

I then went on to my GCSE where I made a television table inspired by B&O design. It was designed to be functional and strong (it can hold a BeoVision Avant 55") and my presentation got me 89% (again in the top 10 highest marks for my school that year) Now I am at Bridgwater College and have a lot more resources, so I want to push the boundaries by including more technology into my project, and so I have chosen to make wireless speakers.

Design Brief

I have chosen to design and manufacture a Plug & Play wireless surround sound system, but with a new twist on a classic B&O design. The prototype would make it easier for people to set up and have high-quality sound no matter how it is transmitted to the speakers. The speakers will also have to look good and have interchangeable speaker covers so that people can change the look to suit their environment. The speakers would have to last a long time and be able to play high-quality sound at all volume levels. The speaker design will have a variety of finishes and materials to meet different budgets.

Risks and challenges

There are few risks. I am going to try to make the speakers mostly with machines so there is a low chance for error. The only major problem that could affect the project is timing and error in design accuracy. I will make sure that I check all my measurements and I will try to make the machinery construct the parts over night so then they are ready the next day for me to attach to the main body.

As a regular visitor to the Exeter store I can recall Nick doing his work experience there (it was around two years ago wasn't it Nick?) and remember well his passion and enthusiams for the brand, so it is great to see that this has not diminished Smile

I don't have any BL6000 parts but I do have at least one set of drivers salvaged from a Beocenter 6-26 if you would like them? (a pair of 4 inch woofers and a pair of 18mm tweeters). If I can find it I also have a Dolby Digital / DTS decoder PCB with an LCD display and remote control (from China, not B&O)  that will take a SPDIF input and provide analogue outputs for each of the channels and you are welcome to have this too if you think it might be of use for your project.

Send me a PM if interested and we can sort out how best to get these items to you. Hopefully others here might also have some bits they've been hoarding that can be of assistance to you Wink

Kind Regards,

Martin.

Best of luck to him!

A copy of the "Art of the Impossible" would provide a good guide to the kind of presentation David Lewis would appreciate if he were practicing today.

Hello Martin,

Thank you for your message. Yes, I did some work experience with Matthew last August and earlier in the year,  I gave a demo of my TV table.

I am interested in your BeoCenter 6 drivers and wondered how much you are looking for them.

Many thanks for your message and your support for my project.

Kind Regards,

Nick

I don't want anything for them. If you're likely to be in Exeter any time soon I can drop them into the store and ask Matt to hold on to them for you to collect. Alternatively, if you send me your address (click on my username to the left, then the link to send an email) I'll happily box them up and post them.

Kind regards,

Martin.

No worries. I wish the best of luck with your college project. I'll drop the bits off at the Exeter store on Saturday and send you a quick message once I've done so and you can then collect at your convenience.

Kind Regards,

Martin.

Hi Nick,

I am giving away a few teles on the "Beoworld for sale forum"

BV6 26" Seems to work OK but don't have the pin code using the mastercode it fires up alright, The speaker fret it tidy if you want it for spares, so not working.

BC6 23" c/w DAB module, good fret, this one briefly shows picture before screen going black, so not working.

MX7000 In Black, currently still in use working well, but a bit big for a bedroom tele.  SO THIS ONE IS WORKING

These are ripe for canabalising.

Just message me and we can sort something out.

They are located east of Exeter in Talaton and I work at Long Ashton, so a drop off shouldn't be too difficult
