Two more things with my very little A1 experience (still unpacked) : I thought that Moss Green had something to do with Stirling Moss / British Racing Green (I'm so stupid) - I got a paper from my official B&O dealer saying that the warranty is managed directly by Beoplay not the dealer (via internet - return policy).

So I've done it the awaited side by side comparison between Beolit 15 and A1.

15 minutes test with 3/4 different songs.

No surprise, the winner is by far the 15 with much much richer fuller clearer sound.

I twiked the settings of both devices with Beoplay app, Beolit for less bass, A1 for more bass.

Standard sound from A1 is desperatly flat, good you can improve it via the app.

Very pleased with built quality from the little device, nice touch from alu and soft plastic.

It's smaller in real life than in picture.

Should be ok when travelling or for the kids as an entry level product not much more.

If it's for a main speaker I will go the Beolit 15 way or A6.

Good point not much distortion when playing loud.

Worth it ? Yes. But the Bose soundlink mini was more impressive (sound and built quality)

for less money.

Winner :

And don't forget my daughters travel case...

Your daughters case reminds me of Rainbow.

I think I'd like a case made from this character Cool

Do you think it will be possible to change the cover if we are fed up of telling stories ?

I believe the cover has to come off in an easy way, because all the regulatory markings are in a sticker that's underneath the cover, similar to the A2. I don't think it's allowed to put those into a place that's not user-accessible.

I found a real photo of the A1 without the cover (the B&O site also has one, but it's missing the labels obviously). It looks like a twist-and-turn mechanism to me.

Nice find Tph, thank you. Looks definitely like a twist and turn.

After a few more dents I will ask for a new one at my dealer hoping it doesn't cost too much.

@ BeoGreg

I will wait more time for changing the aluminum part.

It is not enough damage.

It worked indeed, just unscrew (anti clock wise) the alu part for 2/3 mm and voilà.

Of course mon Beoboy I will wait a few new bumps before doing anything but it's good to know it's an easy fix (if 1) the alu part is available alone and 2) the plastic part is not also damaged wich, for the moment, is my case).

Playing with the little beast tonigh.

Just got back with Spotify Premium for the summer nights.

Well after saying the sound was flat (itunes) I now say that I'm impressed with the sound.

For my ears (tonigh anyway) no big difference with Beolit 15.

Good surprise.

I received my second A1 today and can confirm that they DO NOT work together paired. The result is horrible. I don't have this problem using two A2 speakers together. Can anyone confirm if the BeoLit 15 speakers work together as a pair with no problem?

This is disappointing. I was looking forward to driving the Porsche out to a romantic meadow this weekend with a cute guy, bringing a picnic and two A1 speakers in the front trunk. Better to learn this now than being embarrassed when they don't don't work as they should. Do they make Cialis for B&O?

I'm 'glad' you're having this problem too @beojeff. It really isn't acceptable. I've been told it's because I'm playing it from video sources from my Mac but that's still not cool. What happens with you?

Looks like there is a software update available on the Beoplay App for A1. I did apply it yesterday from my Mac. You should try after updating it, maybe it is fixing issues like this one ? I didn't find the release notes of this firmware update.

Any release notes or info available for this new A1 firmware version? I'm from the "don't fix it if it ain't broken" camp :)

For a single A1, the software is fine. However, when trying to pair two together the software is definitely "broken."

I have tried pairing 2 BeoPlay A1 and it works fine.

In both modes "Ambient" and "Stereo".

Well, what happens for me is that I don't use Beolit 15 anymore because A1 does the job greatly.

Instead of having Beolit 15 a few meters away when we eat in the kitchen, I just hang A1 near us and it's great fun for the familly.

Of course Beolit 15 is more powerful but depending on your needs, A1 is far enough. With Beoplay app settings the sound is brilliant.

I enjoy it more and more every day.

Show some pics of it yesterday to a friend who needs a portable speaker he said "Wow". Unfortunately for him Beoplay app is not available for Android so it's a no go.

Can you do the firmware update with the Beoplay app (over bluetooth) or do you need to do it with a different app and wired on a pc/mac?? When i connect my A1 to the Beoplay app no new firmware popup and cant find it in the menu!

Hi There,

after reading and learning a lot on BeoPlay A1 here, I would like to contribute a photo showing what is inside this little miracle.

It is easy to open after removing the grill by using T10 Torx Screwdriver. I opened it in order to find out what kind of battery is used inside.

The batteries are located on bottom on the pictures unit, shrinkwrapped with attached cables using a 3-PIN connector to the board.

This pack is being held by an easily removable plastic bracket.

It should be 2 x 18650 LiIon Battery cells at 2,200 mA each. They are balanced on the mainboard, so it should be relatively easy to replace the cells once the original ones are dead and no official spare battery packs are available.

Tried BeoPlay app from a friends Android phone and I can confirm it works fine. Stereo with 2 devices also works fine.

@BeoGreg - I did not. I treat myself instead to a beautiful 200 years of surfing book. Something that will last a lifetime for me :)

After the abysmal B&O customer service that I experienced from them - 3 days to reply to Emails, I decided that they simply did not deserve my honest earned cash! And that's how I do business!

Thanks for your answer Paul.

Of course you do what you want with your money, of course a book as a longer life time than an electronic product (unless it's stolen/burned/destroyed by kids-cats-dogs...) but, there's a but and you know it, the joy/pleasure to listen to your music on this little device is priceless.

I was reluctant to spend another 250 € on a chinese product, I don't regret it one second and I have multiple B&O products home.

A smile on my face this A1.

How about playing music on the A1 while reading the big book of surf ?

Nirvana.
