Hi All,

I have had a search through the forums but couldn't find anything relating to my issue.

Our MKII 7-32 has stopped working, the standby light was on but the set was non responsive.  B&O took the set away, examined and confirmed that we had a main chassis failure which could be replaced at a cost of £1400.  Obviously this is not an option as 2nd hand ones can be picked up for sub £1000.  We were not anticipating a six year old B&O to stop working so really not budgeted for a new purchase, so we have sourced a lightly used 7-40 MKII which will hopefully see us good for a few more years until we upgrade.

My question, is the 7-32 salvageable or should I take to the local waste collector.  If salvageable where would you recommend I could source a main chassis from (Module 999?).  I'm happy to tinker with the set and if it could be repaired by me at a low cost it would be great to put into another room.

Hope that all makes sense!

TIA

Hi S3dgley,

Hard to say what the problem is. Perhaps it is possible to fix the issue. I don't think B&O tries to fix broken logic boards but instead just exchange them for new ones. Easy for them and possibly better but if the problem is cold solder joint then it is very cheap to fix.

Hi Michael,

I live near Cambridge in the UK.

Apparently our 7-32 has been well used since we had it installed in February 2007.  Twice the average usage level per day according to Gloucester B&O service center...  We were also told that the dust on the back did not help.  We had a chimney bricked up but ran the cables through this open space.  The 7 was fixed wall mounted in this area using an STB bracket so this probably didn't help.

Checking the service manual flow diagram myself, everything leads to replace module 999.

As said before the standby light was on but nothing happened when trying the dvd eject, tv, stb buttons on the be04 hence the chassis replacement recommendation.

Ah, well that is a bit to far for me :).

Sounds like you have been having much to watch on the TV but I don't think you have watched to much, who can say what is average really?

Do you think the problem is related to heat? I don't know what the problem might be but I would believe it to be a bad capacitor or something like that perhaps.
