As raised in a different thread, many much valued contributors to the old site seem to have gone.

One was Trip English who last posted here back in March.

I think this is Trip (not his real name)... someone will recognise him as being a B&O store manager in the US....  and will hopefully go into the store and give him a prod!

Anyone got any leads on other absent contributors?

I always imagined trip as a kind of pushy salesman who knew better than you . B&o seem to specialise in those.

NO WAY that pic is of Trip!

Flappo may have part of it... besides the reduction of a lot of general posters, there seems to be an appreciable drop in posts from folks that populate the official stores.

I am guessing (JUST A GUESS!) that B&o may have sent out a memo...

I could probably write that theoretical memo.  It would start:

"In the interest of better customer service..."

How sweet of you guys to mention me. I was alerted that I was being discussed!

I haven't posted in a while for a few reasons, but I still check in from time to time. Things are busy at the store, moved to a new (old) house, etc etc. Haven't had much time for forums, really.

Maybe I'll make it a point to drop by more often and throw a few elbows for old time's sake.

Hope you all are well.

Definately good to be this busy. We were doing a lot of custom business, but the cash & carry and mid-level systems had thinned out. Now those segments have come roaring back - bolstered, I'm sure, by a slowly recovering economy and some pretty amazing products.

Hi Graham, there was another thread on this very same topic, a few weeks ago :)

I added that some key users had disappeared and one of those was Trip, who contributed a huge number of posts (and I've written this without noticing Trip has posted above ;). Good news.

What about the young guy who worked in the B & O shop in Bath?  He had an amazing knowledge of electronics computers and B & O products.  He did mention in one of his posts that he had acquired a girl-friend so probably he is a bit busy. ;-)

Yes, that was the previous ('different') thread referred to!

I see Clifft refers to someone in Bath above. Was that the 'Beonic Man' or someone with a name like that?

Another person who comes to mind (if only for his opulent lifestyle) and has dropped off the radar is Fabian.  If I remember correctly, he seemed to spend his life jetting between his fabulous houses in New York, Switzerland and Paris all stuffed to the rafters with the latest B & O gear.  Maybe his real name was Fabianovski from Moscow and he has fallen foul of Putin!  :-(

Well, in short, Beoworld is no longer what it once was and the world of B&O has changed too.
That's how I see and feel it.
For me, the main reasons for the drastic changes are posting problems, the dreadful new look and navigation
of the forum (the worst I've ever seen on the net), lack of new content, new products heading off in a
different direction, general forum section flooded daily with Apple discussions, less interest
in vintage B&O items and I'm getting old and grumpy.
I'm sure, that others feel the same. Well, more or less, and maybe not as much the latter.

When some high posters turn away, the discussion base and general feeling disappears and other "key members" follow.
New members quietly, and sometimes inadvertently, fill in the empty seats and, eventually, will become the
new hard core to take the forum off in a new direction.
The old hard core members, may they be highly respected and/or awarded, will go into oblivion (if it wasn't for a thread like this).

I can sit with tons of experience into vintage B&O, it's of no value here since right now Beoworld needs
an Apple or whatever brand specialist to comment on threads and to tell you why your digital piece of Apple won't synchronize
with your digital other brand vacuum cleaner and your wireless thingamabob connected to your Beowhatever sw version 4.07 option 3.
What happened last year is history.
Needless to say, the hard core guy to answer this mustn't be a guy with more than a years
experience, obviously that would be ridiculously outdated info. No, it must be someone who just happened to
have solved the given issue on the same day and who can set the time off to pop in and guide others
before next week when it would be too late anyways.

I miss the good old days but there's a time and a place for everything.

It's OK Martin - you and I can grow old in the Vintage Forum!! I confess the digital age is not really for me, though I am a big Apple fan as far as computers go. Playing more with my car these days - waiting for some bits to arrive at the moment. How goes the Karmann?

It's frightening to realize that you are absolutely right, Martin. I never thought of it that way before.

Fortunately the vintage stuff isn't going anywhere soon - it's been here for 20, 30, 60 years or even longer, and will remain relevant as long as there is a need to amplify electronic signals and transduce them into sound waves.

Oh yes, good point. His name is Alex.

I'll ask in the Bath store when I'm in there this week. Alex stopped working in the store a couple of years ago, went to uni, started posting on here infrequently and hasn't posted for a long time now. He is quite young. 20 I think. Maybe he's moved on to other another brand? If I remember correctly, some of his last posts were about monitor speakers he'd been evaluating from other brands and how impressed he was.

I partly agree with you Martin, the new look is a question of what you like, or getting used to, I have no problems there.

Navigation is a disaster, new products is at the moment the top posting item, but how long time can people discuss a new item already outdated, as of the embedded  Apple discussions, its maybe time to give them their own forum, BEOAPPLE.

In vintage there are few postings at the moment, but lets not give up or in, You and I are never giving up on anything we started, be it a nearly impossible vintage restoration or getting obsolete spares, and we will keep the vintage forum going, it was, and still is, for me, the most interesting forum of them all.

Old and grumpy, well me too, but I will keep grumpy on the forum, until we have it working like it should.

As of Friday evening Mex. time, I've had no time outs or resets, Keith is working, and after solving that problem, we move on to the next.

And to the rest of the "Vintage" people, get your tools out of storage and start working again, and remember without pics it didn't happenSmile

And Martin: We do miss your interesting threads, was it very old vintage restoration, old B&O posters or your interesting and well written fault finding stories, so dont give in, you are needed here.

On the old forum I had all my pics on site, today I have to store my pics on Photobucket as it is easier and faster to work with, but it works, and until this site gets perfect we will have to find solutions that keeps everything going.

You don't have to be old to be grumpy, so get grumpy on the forum, that's the only way to change it.Surprise

BTW, I'm founding member of club for Danes here in Mexico, we play dice once a month, another founding member is the same age as me, a very good friend of mine, they call us the Grumpy Old Men.

Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.

The thing about these "Apple discussions" is that isn't going to cease. Telling users to stop talking about Airplay, iPhones or an Airport Express will just create a false and stale board. Boards migrate in a certain way for a reason. It's the same as my football club. We were a Premiership team for years and have now spent a few seasons in the Championship. Result? Most of the discussion on the board is moaning, complaints and non-football talk. Why? We barely have any money to spend, there are no transfers to discuss and we're not winning cups. So, the discussions move on. Not much you can do about this and it won't change until we get promoted again, have money to spend and can speculate/discuss transfers.

It's the same as Beoworld. Sure we have some interesting new B&O products, but we forget that most of them were designed to integrate with Apple devices - BS8, A8, Beolit 12, V1, A3 and others.

Until that situation changes, moaning about "Apple discussion" is fruitless.

Several of my most recent posts have been about the level af Appleness on the general forumSad - at least if it's in a thread of an apple related product (A8, Beolit12) I can avoid it but there is an incessant wave of comparing every single thing to some Apple product or other (or in a more recent case the packaging)!!!, it has become very wearing or even, as in my case, deeply irritting.

I'm not sure if it's even possible to prevent it, but as you say, one of the effects is to chase at least some of the long term members away from the general forum or even from the site itself!Sad
