Hi folks, what do you think of this rattle - double bass drum kicks (courtesy of The Bad Plus's Dave King) illustrate it well, it also happens with other bass frequencies.

As the video shows, the rattle seems to be coming from the air chambers at the top, and the woofers sound (and look) fine to me. Both speakers are doing it.

Any suggestions before I start dismantling them? Much appreciated

I'd guess it's the woofer surround material, which is very thin rubber. Manually push in the woofer, which makes the tear/split in the surround material easier to see.

Thanks. I have looked really closely and pushed and prodded as hard as I dare but I cant see any splits or tears. I have started trying to dismantle the air chambers, but it is all pretty well glued together even with the torx screws removed. Sad. I really dont want to break these things.

I might just go for the re-ring option anyway, so at least that is ruled out.
