Hello,

does anyone know if the BeoPlay S3 can be used with Chromecast Audio via the minijack?

I have just purchased four S3's, and want to link them all for multi-room use, and I think it should be possible via Chromecast.

Does anyone have any experience in this?

Thank you.

Hi dtails,

Welcome to Beoworld!  Yes, you can link the Chromecast to the first (master) S3 speaker via a minijack cable, the space inside the speaker socket panel is tight so a very thin cable like this one needs to be used:-

https://www.soundsheavenly.com/bo-play/153-premium-braided-cable-for-beoplay-a1-a2-a6-s3-m5-beolit-12-15-17-with-metal-plugs.html

You can then cable to the other speakers or link them wirelessly from the first speaker.

Kind regards, Steve.

Steve, hi I've read many of your posts.

I want to have line-in CCA  on one S3 (left channel) and then the right channel on the other side of the room. I think when I use line-in, then I cannot use the inbuilt wireless sync for stereo. Running a cable is very difficult in this room.

I'm thinking of a modded CCA -> S3 cable, which sends only the left signal to the left speaker (or double up left signal to left and right input to use both internal amps), then vice versa for right channel. Then use the CCA app to make one speaker group.

What are your thoughts, please?

Hi,

That should be possible, but I haven't tried it.  The S3 speakers are set up to allow for sharing sound between multiple speakers, so the simplest option is to link to the first (front left) speaker and then let this share the sound to the other speakers.

Kind regards, Steve.

I think there are 2 concerns for my intended setup

1) If you connect to the line-in on the first S3, I don't think you can make a wireless link to the 2nd.

2) If I run cables to different rooms then this will mean I can't choose where I want to sound. Setting up different CCA groups will give me this.

On the cable mod, if I cross left CCA signal, to feed left and right input on an S2, am I an danger of causing any damage?

Please be aware that the EQ and DSP controls in the B&O app do not effect the wired input - i.e. I believe you have no control other than volume.

Thanks you. There is a bit of control in Spotify, but I tend to run everything flat. The plan is to leave the speakers at a fairly high volume, then control all from chromecast app.

Hi osc,

yes, I managed to hook up four s3's on one Chromecast network. One CC in each mini-jack, and they will communicate vie the wifi, giving you access to all four in one go.

Good luck!

Perfect, thanks. I'm guessing you are playing each speaker in single point stereo?

It would be great if Google issue a software update you that you can select if a speaker plays left, right or mono. In the mean time I'm going to try the cable hack to see if I can get left and right.

Nice - and how does volume control work in daily use?

Do all 4 respond the same, when you use the control via the sending app/device?

Do the S3’s remember their own volume settings, after being in standby - or are they maybe always on?
