Hello all,
I would like to convert a Beolab LCS 9000 to a passive center speaker powered by a MCL2P amplifier for my surround setup.
As there is not enough space between my tv and the cabinet below, Beolab LCS9000 is the only speaker that will fit, technically and optically. BL 7 speakers are no option, because their depth is too high. It won't look very well under the tv if it is mounted 10cm from the wall, but BL7's front is about 20cm from the wall.
Converting Beolab LCS 9000 from a masterlink speaker to a powerlink speaker will work, but it includes very much technical knowledge and massive modifications of the internals.
I know of the almando devices, which converts the speaker to a powerlink speaker, but it's expensive and would create noise in the signal way.
As I currently have a B&O ir-eye between my tv and the cabinet below, I would like to integrate the internals of this ir-eye into the LCS 9000 case, right behind the display where normaly the dot matrix display is integrated.
Is there anybody out there who has previously done such passive modification and can help out with the required crossovers or is able to build a passive crossover which suits LCS 9000 well ?
Any help or ideas are welcome :-)

I believe you can use the MCL connector directly..
No need to tear the speaker apart

Which one do you think is more work? The drivers inside the BL 3500 has a well balanced active filter. Converting this to a passive 2 way filter is possible, but it will never sound as the original. A passive filter will send the complete frequency spectrum at the woofers where the active version has a adapted filter for the drivers. So, no overload caused by lower frequencies.
I've converted several BL3500's to powerlink with just some minor changes. The advantage is that the MCL socket is the same as powerlink. The only thing you have to do is to send the audio to the right pins (and bypass the audiocontrol circuit) and take the powerup signal on pin4 to trigger the power for the BL3500. Leave the rest as it is. I have to look for my notes I made.
Still, some soldering skills are needed in both.

My post was moderated when I replied to Beobuddy that I am also interested in the PowerLink conversion and that I thank him in advance for sharing his notes. Anyway, I will just try again :-)

This is an interesting thread! There are also some simple options that can make the 3500 easier to use:-
1) If used as a stand-along speaker with a non-B&O TV, any version of 3500 or LCS9000 can plug directly into the TV headphone socket with a direct cable connection (no modification required):-

2) By updating a Beolab 3500 mk.2 (with Powerlink socket) to software level 3.1, the speaker can connect directly to a B&O TV via a Powerlink cable to work as part of a surround sound system:-

I think I understand the pin connections but i do not know how to bypass the audio control circuit.
