Please can anyone help. I have had 2 call outs from bang and olufsen and still can't get a picture or uninterrupted sound. I have a Samsung 4K tv in my lounge with the Sky HD 2tb box underneath, I am running a 7 meter HDMI cable and fibre optical cable down to my basement to my Beovision 7 mk2 (plugged into the dvi) It always used to work with my old box, when I go in the menu to Dtv it comes up Thompson skyHD mkii in the menu is this the right sky box?. I borrowed a neighbours amstrad HD box and it worked on the 720 resolution. The engineer suggested running a cat6 cable with 2 HDMI connectors and setting the resolution to 576 but I think I should be able to get 720 like before.

hope someone can help as my wife wants me to sell the lot

Hi Derek.

Welcome to beoworld.

Mddelweston:
when I go in the menu to Dtv it comes up Thompson skyHD mkii in the menu is this the right sky box?

I'm not sure, but in any case, even if it isn't, this won't be the cause of you picture / sound issues. The selection in this menu is purely to allow you to control your sky box with the B&O remote (with the aid of an IR emitter connected to the BV7 and stuck to the front of the sky box).

In my experience, anything over 5 metres can cause issues with HDMI. That's not to say it is always a problem as you discovered with your previous box, but your mileage may vary when using longer cables.

It all depends on:

  1. How strong the signal is that the sky box sends down the HDMI cable - some boxes talk more 'quietly' than others.
  2. How much of this signal is lost in the HDMI cable - longer cables lead to more signal loss, and higher quality cables reduce this loss.
  3. How sensitive the HDMI receiver circuit is in the television being used.

In short, even when a given cable appears to work in one configuration, changing the box (or the television) can result in problems not encountered before.

Your options would be:

  1. Try a higher quality HDMI cable.
  2. Do as the engineer suggests and replace the HDMI cable with a cat6 cable and a pair of converters - with the right converters there is no reason they can't be used at 720p but it does depend on what converters you use.
  3. Install an HDMI signal booster / extender behind the BeoVision 7. I've had good experiences with the 'Neet' product and it will often operate well without having to use a seperate power supply: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Neet®-Extender-Amplified-Repeater-Supports/dp/B002C77FTI/

Hope this helps.

Martin.
