Beogram8000 platter spinning out of control

Greetings Beolovers,

After installing Martins replacement cap-kit (great instructions !!!!) I had hope that madly

Platter-spinning issue would perhaps be cured ??!

No, the problem is still present ! There were no cracked solder-joints visible after checking

With a magnifier very carefully. A new metal tacho-disc is fitted, so it should not be the source of the problem !?

The only thing I can think of is perhaps the optical sensor being defect ? But how to test that one ??

If it turns out to be the sensor is there a (used) replacement available ?

Anyhow, I would be most grateful for any help - the BG is on 'life-support' at the moment !

Ages ago I did have to replace one, really sorry I can't remember the replacment I used but did have to transplant it into the original housing as I couldn't find one anywhere with such a fine slot and right size as the original, I'm sure someone will come along with the info you need soon

Trouble is that there can be several issues causing this'fan-like' platter spin ?

Is it the sensor at the tacho-disc ?

Is it a faulty 1IC1 (the LM 324P)

Is it the main μProcessor ?

This type of performance might be amusing on a hot sommer's day, but......

The answer is not blowing in the wind but on that damn main board !

There is a speed sensor that the tachodisc passes through. Monitor the output of that with an oscilloscope, then trace the signal from there back to the processor to make sure it is getting there. I believe that is 0PE2 to IC1 to the processor pin 40. You also might look at connector P4 which is for the platter motor. With connector P4 disconnected, the platter motor will not function (handy for some adjustment tests). So you could trace back and measure what is going on with those connector lines (with an oscilloscope).

Hi john,

Some further positive news.....the platter is spinning again as it supposed to do Surprise

All I did was some measuring of the speed sensor while spinning the tacho-disc.

The next moment saw a normal spinning platter - isn't that nice ?!!

Also discovered the problem with the non-working manual foward/reverse function.......

A burnt-out  light bulb. !!

Once replaced everything is back to normal/life ........... for now at least Lets have a Party !!!

Off to get my old BM2200 back to life......there is always hope, isn't there ?!!

One thing to remember is even though the solder joints look good, there sit may be a problem with them. Cold solder joints or intermittent solder joints are hard to see. You would be safe to just unsolder and resolder all the solder joints on the the pcbs and microprocessor. Then you should have a good performing table. Yes, that's a lot of work but this is what I did and everyone that buys these tables used should do. You will have a problem free table.

I still think that the ribbon cables should be soldered instead of them using in aconnector.
